"Play the board AND the man ! ".
But mostly the board.
Was born in Elsinore,Denmark,1953.And I am still proud of it.As I hope everyone is proud of hers/his startingpoint.

In many aspects life and chess do mirror each other IM experience. As science and belief goes hand in hand.So many "rules of thumbs" and many "exceptions" from the rule. I do agree with Bent Larsen who once said that someone who cannot contain a paradoxe is not using the full capacity of his brain.Actually I am convinced that there are no parodoxes, but perspectives which are more bright or flexible than others...

Though some obviously are borned under more easygoing circumstances than others,I will second our esteemed fellowkibitzer <zarg> who underlines that "luck" is also somehing that we create ourselves. Ourselves, but also together IM experience.
I try to live my life as if Jesus or Buddha knocked on the door , I would wellcome them as friends . And if they didn´t show up, it would be fine anyway.

moronovich: Thanks for the congrats ! And yes it feels fine to "have" a fellow Scandinavian as a well deserved WC.And I have met Peter Heine on several occasions so also in that respect it is a gain. So the decission from Magnus to offer a draw in the 12th turned out to be the right one !

Was in town this afternoon and night with first KJ and later with PK was a wonderfull experience tonight.Just what I needed.Nothing like a human touch! So you have a lot of winterlike conditions!?Could be the climatechange and all in all I am afraid we are as a species not good enough to take care of mother earth...But hopefully we will learn it some day?

Take care my friend and looking forward e.g. to look at some of your games and also what tomorrow has in store. You never know :)

Good night and all the best for you and your life !

See you around.

Nov-30-18  virginmind: Hi, and indeed, nothing like the human touch, especially during the night :) Please send all my best thoughts for your two friends.

I too believe it has to be the climate change, I mean, minus 13 here and minus 19 Celsius this morning in a county near Iasi - can you believe it? This can't be tolerable. I would bet 100 lei that it's a record for the past century here, at least.

Just brought ma belle soeur parisienne from the airport, she's paying a one week visit to her Romanian relatives...Monday they (Maria and her, I stay at home) will leave for Onesti, and after a few days to Bucharest. So for five days I will have the whole home all for myself. Unfortunatelly I'll also have to prepare for yet another two academic events scheduled for the first half of Dec.

As for the rest, all should be fine, as far as I'm aware. Health is great and chesswise getting better by the day. And a wonderful weekend for you!

  moronovich: Morning dear <virginmind>!

Just a short note as wife is away(too;) for a Christmas market ,and I hope the old body is cooperative and going to town and see JWH.And thanks I´ll give them my regards and I hope you also will enjoy your "free" day ;)Perhaps a few immortal chess games !? (Very glad to hear you feel the progress, after all your work). Brunchtime, signing out with all the best and see you up the road, hopefully in a condition were you aren´t turned into an icecream with all these low temperatures. Sometimes nature is a lovely bitch. And sometimes just a bitch.

Dec-04-18  virginmind: Good evening, a bit nervous, as Chessbase didn't record a game I won 2 daus ago and so my rating remained the same. Still the game appears in the list if I access Chessbase by Fritz 11. E-mailed them and Peter said he doesn't have an explanation for this behaviour. I find this odd, so I will investigate further.

For the rest I should be OK and I hope you're fine. Bye.

  moronovich: Good evening !

Strange with this till now, disappaerd game.Hopefully your skills as a lawyer can help you !? Have done some shopping today and actually manneged to buy all the christmas gifts for my wife! Very satisfying and a big relief..love to buy her gifts, but all the traffic that goes along with it ):

Have you seen the field for Tata Steel in a little more than a month ? Wauw,it is very interesting with a couple of big fighters onboard !Very impressive. Here wife is waiting, sleeping on the couch, knowing that soon will have fish with potatoes, vegetables topped with cheese, made in the holy oven.

And do you enjoy beeing on your own ?

Hope you are fine,so am I,as we used to write when we were at school ;)

See you around and all the best wishes.

  moronovich: Good evening <virginmind >!

Today we got our Christmas tree,so we are closing in.... And tomorrow we shall go to one of my favourites the irish "Tier Na Noq pub, saying hello and merry Christmas to a lot of friends, which usually is a very nice experience.

So not so much time for London, but hopefully I´lll catch up if they go to the (supposed?) tiebreaks. But I had time to go over your games.

Especially the second one was a delight
with all these mutual counter attacks. But it was a pitty you didn´t win it ):,also as the knight sacrifice could have paid off big time.
But you missed a mate in one-Qd1#,instead of Qxf2,I must mention.

All in all I get the impression that you have improved !? Do you also feel that ?

Had the greatest headache since years this morning when I woke up,but somehow managed to cure it and as a kind of miracle this day ended well. Wehen the heaviest headache disappear it is one of the best feelings I know,as we have spoken about before and as you know so well yourself!

Hope you are doing fine and is getting ready for Christmas and that you may have a nice Sunday!

See you around.

Dec-15-18  Count Wedgemore: <moronovich> My good friend, what's going on? You're in 119. place with -589 in the Bookie game! If you don't turn things around quickly, you're in trouble: that mean-looking Loanshark may send one of his goons all the way to Denmark to collect his chessbucks!!

Dec-18-18  virginmind: Hello <moronovich>, and thanks for reviewing my games. Indeed you are right, I missed those things. I don't know at the moment if I've improved, I guess not much - at least in the light of my latest losses, which I will not let you know about :)

Of course, Christmas is around the corner and everybody around is busy with preparations. I am about to buy a tree in a couple of days, and then we go to Onesti, but return in time to spend the holy day within the family.

It's been snowing and it looks like real winter here, but not extremely so, for now. I had ups and downs with my body, but it's keeping rather steady, in a good way, I believe. That is, a balance of contraries, which is not bad, after all. Makes you apreciate the virtues of each. Or the peculiarities.

Who knows what the future will bring about? But at least it's our future and we'll gladly embrace it. Or...it's rather not all ours? I'll think about it.

Have an excellent Tuesday, my friend!

  moronovich: Hi´<morf> !

Thats great news and supposedly the best Christmas present you could get !?

I am so glad on your behalf !

Dec-25-18  virginmind: Merry Christmas and all the best to you and Hannah, <oronovich>! Thank you for your kind wishes. We just got back from Onesti, where among other things, I had a longer than usual headache affair. But it all ended well and we spent the Christmas within the family back in Iasi.

I'm fine and wish you both a lot of great evenings! Prepare to follow the blitz&rapid tournament in Sankt Petersburg, hopefuly with a free video relay.

Hugs.

  moronovich: Hi <virginmind > !

Just shortly here from St. Petersburg where the huge upset, off course,is Carlsen loosing the first 2 games to significantly lower rated opponents !?!?? saw it on NRK1,norwegian television, and as far as I could see his mistakes/blunders were very uncharacteristicallyf from him.Very strange. Is it the price he pays after the big match in London ?...But all in all,IMO,he confirms that he is not the player he used to be.

Glad to hear your Christmas ended well and especially you got rid of your nasty headache. So please keep it that way ! (Oh it is one of the best feelings I know of,when a nasty headache disappears,as we have talked about before. So I feel for you)

Here we are having some nice quite and easy Christmas days with good food and relaxation topped with no obligations. And with Hannah at home for almost one week more !

Say hello and merry Christmas to Maria too and hugs to you both !

Au revoir and lots of ST. Petersburg Chess :)

Penguincw: Hi <moronovich>. Have a Happy Holidays, and good luck in the Championship leg. :)
Dec-29-18  Count Wedgemore: Congratulations on your big payout after the rapids championships, <moro>! You've almost caught up with me, only a couple of thousand chessbucks behind me now.

I had put a large wager on Carlsen to win it. My mistake. I should never have trusted Magnus to win the rapid championship. I'm always optimistic about his chances, too optimistic at times. They say there is a fine line between genius and idiot, and he looked more like an idiot in the first couple of rounds :) I don't know if you saw what he did in rd.2, he played the Parham Attack 2.Qh5 against the highly talented youngster Shamsiddin Vokhidov. He didn't really lose that game because of the opening, but it was well deserved after showing such disrespect to the young kid from Uzbekistan.

  moronovich: Good evening <Count> !

Good to see you in the house again and I sincerely hope you have had a fine Christmas ! Hannah and I enjoyed it all.

And yes it is game on ! My bucks are not on Carlsen, nor Naka this round, but on several others. But I was frustrated that there were no payouts as I would have laid 2-3K on Naka and would then perhaps have been taken the topspot.Perhaps the bookie had hangovers today :) Yes I can follow you about Carlsen and it is indeed very difficult to play and not to play when ones favourite is involved. And the fine (classic) line between genius and idiot also goes for us players here at the bookie,as I have tried several times here on my many years on CG. Some years ago I was watching chess(slow) on ICC and Naka (Smallville) himself showed up.I cracked a lot of jokes and he said "I like your jokes moronovich" Perhaps I was a little rude, but anyway I answered "Ah jokes Naka?-jokes like 1.e4-e5.2.Qh5 ?" ;)

Btw Carlsens play may very well(also) be influenced by fattique after the big match, but I am shure you have considered this. I hope for him he will be restituated when Tata begins, but it is not a long time from now…. All the best to you and many thanks for many fine moments in 2018,looking forward to further exchangings in the New Year and hope for good health and wind in your sails my dear <Count> !

Dec-29-18  morfishine: Good job <moronovich>! Our dear friend <Count Wedgemore> needed to be put in his place, but of course there's more work to be done as he still holds the lead.

Good Luck in the Championship leg, thats new territory for me!

moronovich: Thanks <morfishine> ! Thrilling hours ahead of us-though I believe that Carlsen will take this title, but hope not :)

Looking forward to see you in the Championship and I definately think you have a fair chance though it is virgin territory. And I send you all the best wishes for the New Year, which may be a better one since the improvement of your job situation.

Dec-30-18  virginmind: Hi <moronovich> and congrats for the second place on that championship! Carlsen playing 2.Qh5 against a youngster, that I didn't like it. But other than that it's been a thrilling tournament. I'm glad they changed the type of relay for the blitz part - so we can follow the live moves and the players. This evening I'll only be able to watch four hours of the encounters, as we'll go to the opera.

And if we dont see each other shortly, have a Happy New Year, my dear Hannah and <moronovich>! It's been great sharing thoughts with you here, it's a warm place, where I find kind persons. Hugs.

Dec-30-18  virginmind: oh but they started one hour earlier today, great!
