 | | perfidious: What those denizens of the Far Right will purvey in their efforts to demonise the Left: <"The New Phony War"
By J. Robert Smith
As of the November elections, the nation is at war. It’s a 21st-century war, so it’s very different. Because it’s new, the scope and magnitude aren’t easily understood. It hasn’t been declared. It may never be. Hence, for many millions of Americans, perceptions are clouded or lagging. In human affairs, with change, this often occurs. It’s the second American civil war, and its origins predate the November elections fraud, which seems on track to steal the presidency from the rightful winner, Donald J. Trump. The genesis of this civil war is the ideo-cultural war that has waxed and waned across the nation since the late 1960s. So, November’s election thievery might better be regarded as an outgrowth and escalation -- a potentially nation-shattering escalation – of that decades-old cultural conflict. We are in the initial phase of the new civil war. Call it the phony war, which was also the “strangely quiet start to World War II.” The Second World War went eight months without significant hostilities on the Western Front, months marked by puzzlement and hesitancy (see the “Confetti War,” which stemmed from the Phony War.) America’s first civil war had its phony phase of sorts, too. Lincoln was elected on November 6, 1860. Fort Sumter was attacked on April 12, 1861. Over five months, tensions built, and then hostilities commenced. > https://www.americanthinker.com/art... |

This helps explain why narcissists are so sensitive to criticism, why narcissists tend to break into outrage if they're criticized, because their self-esteem is actually much more brittle than it seems, and once they're challenged, that mask falls apart.> ~Jeffrey Kluger |

 | | perfidious: One final chance for the Tinpot Despot to subvert the system: <The presidential election was on Nov. 3; most news organizations pronounced Joe Biden and Kamala Harris the winners a few days later; states certified their results by Dec. 8; and the Electoral College met on Dec. 14. But there’s still a bit of election business to wrap up between now and Jan. 20, when Biden and Harris will be inaugurated as the next president and vice president of the United States. On Jan. 6, Congress will meet in a joint session to formally count the Electoral College votes submitted by the states. The electoral votes are carried into the chamber in ornate boxes, members of Congress look them over and then the incumbent vice president, acting as Senate president, declares the winners. In this case, it will be Vice President Mike Pence declaring victory for his opponents. It will be a tough pill to swallow, but other vice presidents have in the past, including Richard Nixon in 1961 and Al Gore in 2001. The states have already counted the votes cast by their electors. Biden won with a total of 306 electoral votes, compared with President Trump’s 232 (270 Electoral College votes are needed to win). Biden also won the popular vote by over 7 million votes. But since Nov. 3, Trump has refused to concede defeat to Biden. The president continues to falsely claim he has really won the election, asserting widespread voter fraud. Trump’s most ardent supporters are clinging to what is almost certainly a fantasy of overturning the results of the election in Congress. The Electoral Count Act of 1887 requires the vice president to preside over the validation of Electoral College votes in a largely ceremonial capacity and to affirm the winner of the presidential election. Rep. Louie Gohmert, R-Texas, and a group of Arizona Republicans filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court on Sunday against Pence, arguing that the 1887 law is unconstitutional and that he should be legally authorized to pick pro-Trump electors on Jan. 6. “Vice-President Pence, in his capacity as President of Senate and Presiding Officer of the January 6, 2021 Joint Session of Congress under the Twelfth Amendment, is subject solely to the requirements of the Twelfth Amendment and may exercise the exclusive authority and sole discretion in determining which electoral votes to count for a given State,” the lawsuit contends. Trump’s GOP allies could also take another avenue. If at least one House member and one senator object to the results, the objection is put to a vote after two hours of debate. A handful of Republicans in the House — including Georgia Rep. Jody Hice, who was reelected — have said they will object to the electoral results in Georgia, one of the states in which Trump is alleging voter irregularities. On the Senate side, it’s less certain. Incoming Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville of Alabama has suggested but not confirmed that he may also lodge an objection. The effort to throw the election to Trump would need to pass by a majority in both chambers. Even if the vote falls on party lines, it will be defeated by the Democratic majority in the House. Several Senate Republicans oppose it, including Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (who has provoked Trump’s wrath as a result). So it’s hard to imagine a situation in which an objection to a single state’s votes goes anywhere — let alone the multiple states that would be needed to change the election results. So hold tight. Even though our calendars may change on Jan. 1 — 2020 isn’t quite over until the vice president has spoken.> https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/poli... |

 | | perfidious: Browsing over at <pgp>'s forum, not sure whether, or how much, attention I paid this at the time, but read the piece just now, and the ignorance displayed by <Target> is appalling in its scope: <This Man Saved A Girl From Being Stabbed To Death, And Now Target Is Suing Him For ItMichael Turner saved a 16-year-old girl from being stabbed to death, and Target wants him to apologize for it. MAY 19, 2016 By Bre Payton
In 2013, Michael Turner saved the life of a 16-year-old girl who had been viciously attacked and stabbed in a Target store in Pennsylvania. And instead of thanking him for protecting its customers and preventing them from being murdered, Target is now suing him for his heroism and alleging he acted irresponsibly. The attacker, Leon Walls, was convicted of attempted homicide for stabbing then-16-year-old Allison Meadows in 2013. Security footage from the store shows Walls grabbing Meadows and stabbing her before Turner tackles the knife-wielding perp and chases him out of the store with a baseball bat. Meadows and her family vehemently disagree with Target’s legal assault on Turner, calling Turner’s actions heroic and crediting them with preventing Meadows’ murder. The Meadows family has sued the store, claiming that the retail company had inadequate security, and alleging that the store, by suing Turner, is just trying to blame someone else for Target’s own refusal to protect the safety and security of its customers. “Suing Michael Turner is just Target’s way of trying to blame someone else for what happened under their own roof,” an attorney for the Meadows family said, “The family certainly doesn’t blame Mr. Turner and they are thankful he was there that day.” Target, however, is no stranger to charges that it puts parochial corporate politics ahead of its customers’ safety. Target has come under fire recently after announcing that all retail locations would allow customers to use whatever restroom they want regardless of their biological sex. As a result, women may suddenly find themselves sharing a bathroom with grown men. Many women’s rights activists believe Target’s new policy needlessly puts vulnerable women at risk of sexual assault and deprives them of their right to safety and privacy. Target’s policy has raised questions nationwide about whether men who merely claim to be women should be allowed in the same bathroom as women. On Monday, a female security officer at a Giant supermarket in Washington, D.C., was arrested after telling a man to leave the women’s restroom in the store. In Toronto, a serial sexual predator pretended to be a transgender woman named Jessica in order to prey on women at a battered women’s shelter. Trial proceedings over Target’s lawsuit against the man who rescued a 16-year-old girl from being stabbed to death will begin Monday. Meadows and her family will attend the court proceedings, ABC News Channel 9 reports.> https://thefederalist.com/2016/05/1... |

 | | perfidious: Even being Jared Kushner is not proof against the sputtering, raging Tinpot Despot if one does not play arse-licker to the hilt: <Trump reportedly lashed out at Kushner over increased COVID-19 testing: 'I'm going to lose, and it's going to be your fault'A new report by The New York Times examined the contentious relationships within the White House Coronavirus Task Force. It alleges that President Donald Trump lashed out at son-in-law Jared Kushner over COVID-19 testing. "I'm going to lose," Trump reportedly told Kushner during debate prep. "And it's going to be your fault, because of the testing." The White House denied the conversation happened, telling The Times, "President Trump has led the largest mobilization of the public and private sectors since WWII to defeat COVID-19 and save lives." Throughout the course of the pandemic, President Donald Trump lashed out at his son-in-law Jared Kushner over testing and mask-wearing, according to a report by The New York Times. According to The Times, during a meeting of top aides in the Oval Office on August 19, Trump grew angry with increased COVID-19 testing in the US, which he blamed for higher case numbers. "You're killing me! This whole thing is! We've got all the damn cases," Trump reportedly yelled at Kushner. Trump continued, The Times reported, by telling Kushner, "I want to do what Mexico does. They don't give you a test till you get to the emergency room and you're vomiting." The report alleged that Trump viewed testing "as a mechanism for making him look bad by driving up the number of known cases." Trump also lashed out at Kushner about testing during debate preparation, according to the report. "I'm going to lose," Trump said according to The Times. "And it's going to be your fault, because of the testing." The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In a statement to The Times, a White House spokesperson said that the conversation with Kushner "never happened." "President Trump has led the largest mobilization of the public and private sectors since WWII to defeat COVID-19 and save lives," White House spokesman Brian Morgenstern told The Times.> https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/poli... |
