Behold the fiery disk of Ra!

Started with tournaments right after the first Fischer-Spassky set-to, but have long since given up active play in favour of poker.

In my chess playing days, one of the most memorable moments was playing fourth board on the team that won the National High School championship at Cleveland, 1977. Another which stands out was having the pleasure of playing a series of rapid games with Mikhail Tal on his first visit to the USA in 1988. Even after facing a number of titled players, including Teimour Radjabov when he first became a GM (he still gave me a beating), these are things which I'll not forget.

Fischer at his zenith was the greatest of all champions for me, but has never been one of my favourite players. In that number may be included Emanuel Lasker, Bronstein, Korchnoi, Larsen, Speelman, Romanishin, Nakamura and Carlsen, all of whom have displayed outstanding fighting qualities.

Besides sitting across the board from Tal, I have a Lasker number of three and twos for world champions from Capablanca through Carlsen.

chancho: As outlined by Attorney Marc Elias:

<Marc E. Elias
@marceelias·3h🚨NEW: Here is the resolution that will dictate the counting of the electoral votes in Congress on 1/6.

Pence's only job is opening the envelopes and announcing the results given to him by the tellers. He doesn't even get to do the math. He just opens and reads.>

This can taken as one helluva lot of naivete, or a pair of big brass ones--either way, as Orwell wrote, the outcome is doubleplusungood for Our Hero.

Is this bad, when practised by a Tinpot Despot who wants all the power in his hands?

chancho: So it was Mike Pence who ordered the National Guard to D.C.

Trump just stood by with his arms crossed watching the mess he created.

perfidious: Mitt Romney giving the Tinpot and his acolytes a dose of home truth:

<"Now we gather due to a selfish man's injured pride, and the outrage of supporters who he has deliberately misinformed for the past two months, and stirred to action this very morning. What happened here today was an insurrection, incited by the President of the United States. Those who choose to support his dangerous gambit by objecting to the results of a legitimate, democratic election will forever be seen as being complicit in an unprecedented attack against our Democracy.

...

No Congressional audit is ever going to convince these voters, particularly when the President will continue to say that the election was stolen. The best way we can show respect to the voters who are upset is by TELLING THEM THE TRUTH.">

The pathological liar about to vacate 1600 Pennsylvania doesn't do truth.

<Kaitlan Collins@kaitlancollins· 14h White House officials were shaken by Trump's reaction to a mob of his supporters descending on the Capitol today. He was described to me as borderline enthusiastic because it meant the certification was being derailed. It has genuinely freaked people out.>

perfidious: <"For weeks people were saying how ready they were to fight," one person on the forum TheDonald wrote. "The moment it happens everyone starts pearl clutching."....>

Same as their leader in waving the bloody shirt: five-letter word, begins with 'p'.

And Ah don't mean 'pearl', iffen ya git mah drift.

----

<....On the website that was the epicenter of plans for the violent insurrection at the US Capitol Wednesday, some of President Donald Trump’s most loyal followers, who had for months shamed, silenced, and banned anyone who criticized the president, grappled with a new feeling after the riot ended: betrayal....>

Coming as such conduct does from a pusillanimous worm, did these credulous wretches expect otherwise?

<....For months, the forum TheDonald has been a gathering place for people planning to try to overturn Trump’s election defeat. But when its users actually broke into the Capitol, as they had promised to do for months, the site tried to rapidly change course, saying it would “follow President Trump’s lead” and would not allow “organizing, or calling directly for, violence of any kind.”

The reversal, which moderators hinted was made under pressure from the site’s hosts, left some Trump loyalists in disbelief that they had done anything wrong: They were, they said, only following the president’s orders....

“I don’t understand the thinking,” said one popular post on the forum. “Trump told us to march down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol. We listened to the president. They should be thanking us.” ...

Utterly risible, but not so much so for the four who are now dead, thanks to worshipping at the temple of an amoral, narcissistic swine.

Literally. Though probably made of a more high-tech alloy.

Jan-08-21  Refused: Sorry to pour some water on your enthusiasm. Court reform, Puerto Rico statehood or abolishing the filibuster is just not gonna happen.

Manchin won't vote for it, and presumably Sinema won't be onboard with it either.

Now then, good luck finding 2 GOP senators to support it instead.

After 3-4 seconds we can also notice how rudely he pushes the other fellow.A situation which says more than 1000 words.

The whole Trump story also pictures what can happen when someone hasn´t a clue about empathy and hence how all important it is.

Hopefully the dumpling can not make much more trouble before leaving.
