Behold the fiery disk of Ra!

Started with tournaments right after the first Fischer-Spassky set-to, but have long since given up active play in favour of poker.

In my chess playing days, one of the most memorable moments was playing fourth board on the team that won the National High School championship at Cleveland, 1977. Another which stands out was having the pleasure of playing a series of rapid games with Mikhail Tal on his first visit to the USA in 1988. Even after facing a number of titled players, including Teimour Radjabov when he first became a GM (he still gave me a beating), these are things which I'll not forget.

Fischer at his zenith was the greatest of all champions for me, but has never been one of my favourite players. In that number may be included Emanuel Lasker, Bronstein, Korchnoi, Larsen, Speelman, Romanishin, Nakamura and Carlsen, all of whom have displayed outstanding fighting qualities.

Besides sitting across the board from Tal, I have a Lasker number of three and twos for world champions from Capablanca through Carlsen.

chancho: <<<<<<In New York, Donald Trump was a corrupt Joker> who took cudgels to the historic friezes on Bonwit Teller. In Washington, he became something evil. He took cudgels to history itself, to our institutions, decency and democracy.

He draped his autocratic behavior in the American flag. Surrounded by Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, F.D.R., M.L.K. and monuments to our war dead,> this coward whipped up a horde of conspiracists, white supremacists, neo-Nazis and gullible acolytes to try to steal an election for him.> He said he would march to the Capitol with them, but he didn’t, of course. He watched his insurrection on TV, like the bum that he is.

Donald Trump is ruined, along with his repellent family. Even Twitter had finally had enough, suspending its leading arsonist after allowing him to fan the flames for years. The House might well impeach him, and he deserves it, though the Senate might not have the time or inclination to toss him out.

Josh Hawley’s political future evaporated in a cloud of tear gas, and Ted Cruz reinforced why everyone hates him.>

For all the strutting, primping and preening, when everything is on the line, that good ol' five-letter word, begins with 'p', rears its ugly head yet again, baring his character for all to see--as if there were a scintilla of doubt to any discerning observer.

<....Donald Trump is ruined, along with his repellent family....>

He will never gain something he has longed for throughout life, underneath all the boorish behaviour: respect. This <tower of babble>, supreme hypocrite and thoroughly amoral wretch will never achieve more than sufferance. Acceptance will be forever outside his avaricious grasp.

<....Even Twitter had finally had enough, suspending its leading arsonist after allowing him to fan the flames for years....>

A mere symbolic gesture.

<....The House might well impeach him, and he deserves it, though the Senate might not have the time or inclination to toss him out....>

That would be another act of symbolism.

<....Josh Hawley’s political future evaporated in a cloud of tear gas, and Ted Cruz reinforced why everyone hates him.>

For the reprobate Hawley, a phrase from his favourite reading material is a propos:

<His judgment cometh and that right early>

Cruz? He has long been known to be lower than whale shyte.

perfidious: The ground was prepared, long ago, for this current assault on American democracy:

<Donald Trump refused to commit Wednesday night to accepting the results of the presidential election, saying he will "look at it at the time" — a position Hillary Clinton called "horrifying."

In one of the final presidential debate's most bitter and extraordinary exchanges, the Republican nominee reiterated allegations that the race is being "rigged," especially by the "dishonest" media.

"Millions of people that are registered to vote that shouldn't be registered to vote," insisted Trump, adding that Clinton "should never have been allowed to run for the presidency" because of her decision to maintain a private email server at her home while secretary of state.

Debate moderator Chris Wallace pointed out that the peaceful transition of power is a proud U.S. tradition, and that the loser concedes for the good of the country.

"Are you saying you're not prepared now to commit to that principle?" Wallace asked.

"I'll keep you in suspense, okay?" Trump replied.

Clinton pounced hard, describing Trump as a whiner who always claims he's being cheated on whenever "things aren't going in his direction.">

Whatever Hillary Clinton's failings, she was bang on in her assessment of her opponent.

chancho: Congress has the flag at half staff for last Wednesday's murder of Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick, while at the White House it does not.

No word from Trump about Sicknick's death or any empathy of any kind over the five deaths.

The man is a sick, demented, megalomaniac.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/poli...

A week away from the Inauguration and it looks as if the capitol police and national guard are preparing to cordon off the area to prevent any possible troublemakers from being there on January 20th.

Bravo on Belichick for refusing to participate in Trump's medal presentation.

He clearly did not want that stink on him.
