Behold the fiery disk of Ra!

Started with tournaments right after the first Fischer-Spassky set-to, but have long since given up active play in favour of poker.

In my chess playing days, one of the most memorable moments was playing fourth board on the team that won the National High School championship at Cleveland, 1977. Another which stands out was having the pleasure of playing a series of rapid games with Mikhail Tal on his first visit to the USA in 1988. Even after facing a number of titled players, including Teimour Radjabov when he first became a GM (he still gave me a beating), these are things which I'll not forget.

Fischer at his zenith was the greatest of all champions for me, but has never been one of my favourite players. In that number may be included Emanuel Lasker, Bronstein, Korchnoi, Larsen, Speelman, Romanishin, Nakamura and Carlsen, all of whom have displayed outstanding fighting qualities.

Besides sitting across the board from Tal, I have a Lasker number of three and twos for world champions from Capablanca through Carlsen.

May-21-13  Benzol: <TheFocus> <"Neener! Neener! Neener! Na-nana-naa-nah!">

Actüally it's more likely to be "nyuk, nyuk, nyuk" based on previous posts.

OK here's one for the conspiracy theorists.

<AJ> is really a deep cover <cg> employee whose role is to play a Devil's Advocate in order to boost the popularity of the site through controversy. This explains why <AJ> never leaves and the admins never permanently ban him.

Well that's my theory anyway.

perfidious: <Paul>: My money's on 'nyuk, nyuk, nyuk' too, but one word says it all: you never know.
May-21-13  TheFocus: Of course, <AJ> is known for his trademark <nyuk, nyuk, nyuk>, but I wonder which Stooge he is.

Maybe all three?

<"Neener! Neener! Neener! Na-nana-naa-nah!"> is just a children's taunt, and I think <AJ> acts pretty childish most of the time. I mean, how childish is it to pout because the Admins don't input every Class A-Z brilliancy of his?

May-22-13  brankat: Life master's premium membership has expired. I suspect a GM title would cost considerably more :-)

Oh, goodie! Then we can enjoy more of his cut-and-paste diarrhea analysis.

Thank God we can always watch his award winning videos. I think I'll go watch one now.

chancho: <Perfidious> The three Curdo Caviar books are called:

Chess Caviar (in descriptive notation)

More Chess Caviar (algebraic notation)

Still More Chess Caviar. (algebraic notation)

In the first and last book, your name was not in it.

I cannot find <More Chess Caviar.>

It looks like my wife made the book accidentally disappear while cleaning during the past weekend.

If I find it, I'll let you know.

I also cannot find a book of tactics written by
Hans Bouwmeester.

When I cannot find a certain book it annoys me to no end, but hopefully it will turn up.

  perfidious: <chancho>: Thanks for checking!

Bet Curdo-Kosztrewa was in one of those Caviar volumes.

May-23-13  TheFocus: <It looks like my wife made the book accidentally disappear while cleaning during the past weekend.>

You allow your wife to touch your chess books??? Unless she's also a chess player, you need to set down some rules.

<When I cannot find a certain book it annoys me to no end, but hopefully it will turn up.>

Hate it too. I was looking for a book this week. Where is it? I looked through every darn shelf. Still haven't found it.

May-26-13  Benzol: <Alan> Thanks for your support on the Fischer page. Do you remember the story about <lamont>'s death? His strange antics might even surpass <AJ>'s.
May-26-13  brankat: I think Alan is too young to remember <Lamont>'s first demise :-)

Apparently, it was only the second resurrection in recorded History :-)

OhioChessFan: Would it be wrong to hope for the second demise to happen soon?
May-27-13  Benzol: <Alan> Here's a post from <tpstar>.

Tony's post will get you up to speed regarding <lamont> and his earlier demise.

3) <lamont> was a disturbed cheap shot artist who took over the Fischer page hurling insults and cutdowns to anyone who dared to disagree with him or even disbelieve him. He lorded over that page with long-winded post after long-winded post and distinctly created a love/hate atmosphere, where his favorite targets were the most experienced posters around while he also made intensely loyal friends. I used to believe his stories about driving young Bobby around NYC until I realized they were all medication-induced delirium. He used a second account named <lamontation> to argue with himself which was beyond pathetic. He became so desperate for attention and sympathy that he claimed to have terminal Pancreatic Cancer and would die shortly. A few weeks later, his "nurse" signed on to announce his passing, and of course she took the opportunity to tell us all off, but then the dead man showed up shortly thereafter claiming it was all a stunt. (Interestingly her account was closed which almost *never* happens.) I have no idea why anybody took him seriously after that, but whatever. Our last encounter was over speculation that Fischer had Diogenes Syndrome (which is not just dirty but filthy), and of course he insulted me over and over until his friends came around. He is nowhere to be found for the last six months.

The chessforum clique yearns for his return so he may continue making hundreds of personal attacks against other users.>

He has returned like Lazarus but hasn't changed his modus operandi as you can see.

  perfidious: <Paul>: No problem, sir!

The dear boy wasted no time in responding with one of his typical bits of rubbish, though it was uncharacteristically and mercifully brief, by comparison with the typically verbose, overblown offerings with which we have so often been favoured.

<OCF>: If only.

May-28-13  Everett: <perfidious> I see you mentioning a preference for the Bronstein/Larsen Caro. I was wondering if you have any preferred responses to the advanced Caro and the Botvinnik. I have some ideas and wanted to run them by someone who knows what their doing.

BTW, I responded to your last post on the Karpov page, regarding this same topic, and comparing this B16 to the Burn variation in the French.
