 | | WannaBe: True story...
A friend of mine, (it moves? I'm betting on it.) one time, at a sports bar, saw a sure TD dropped in the end zone (he likes to play the 'over' bet.) Got so mad, decided to walk outside and pace off his frustration, walked head down in anger towards the door. Completely miss judged his distance, and <BAM> walked straight into it. (Solid wooden door), had a big goose egg on his forehead for weeks. |
| Oct-30-11 | | Jim Bartle: Obviously your friend wasn't John Madden, who we know just walks through doors and doesn't feel a thing. 49ers win again. Amazingly, they're soooo close to being 8-0. |

 | | WannaBe: <JB> Remember ol' 'Iron Head' Hayward for NO Saints? Doubt he would feel a thing either. So, counting my morning games, went 4-3 all day. Not tooooooo bad, stayed ahead of the vigorish. |
| Oct-30-11 | | Jim Bartle: Hey, didn't the Lions get the memo that Tebow's a folk hero? |
| Oct-30-11 | | Jim Bartle: One guy we can assume would feel it if he ran straight into a door is Gus Frerotte. |
| Oct-31-11 | | technical draw: I am a gambling man. And today I'm going to gamble $25. Not quite a high roller but it could win $150,000....(and I ain't sharing)... |

 | | Phony Benoni: Anybody else wonder if Tony LaRussa is really gone for good? Albert Pujols is rumored to be heading to the Cubs, and they'll probably get a new manager as well... In any event, it's interesting to see him go out just 35 wins short of John McGraw. Sparky Anderson considered McGraw to be the true record holder for wins by a manager since Connie Mack didn't have to worry about getting fired. LaRussa might have had a chance; he's 67 now, and being about 1000 wins behind Mack would mean another 11-12 years, bringing him close to 80. But if Jack McKeon can do it... |

 | | keypusher: <Kinda like the movie 'Titanic', drama, roller-coaster emotional ride, people died at the end, boat sunk. Fini. But was it a 'good' or 'great' movie?! No.> Oh c'mon. Titanic was a terrifc movie, although the anachronistic characters drove me crazy. (It's funny how filmmakers will spend millions to make sure there isn't a stitch of clothing or a brand of beer to be seen than wasn't available in 1912, but have no compunction about ripping a young woman from the 70s and plopping her down on a pre WWI steamship.) If Titanic were a Super Bowl it would definitely be top five. |

 | | Phony Benoni: <keypusher: If Titanic were a Super Bowl it would definitely be top five.> Considering how often Super Bowls fail to live up to the hype, I don't think that's not saying much. |

 | | WannaBe: Gotta love this: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/s... Paragraph 2: <The congressman, Bobby Rush of Illinois, made the accusations at a congressional forum on college sports called to look at the impact of "back-room deals, payoffs and scandals" in college sports.> Back-room deals? Payoffs? Scandals? Are you sure you are not talking about Capitol Hill? |
| Nov-01-11 | | Jim Bartle: What are you talking about, WannaBe? They're totally different. On Capitol Hill the deals and payoffs are right out front to be seen, not in back rooms. |

 | | WannaBe: Yet another 'WannaBe's Research Article', thanks to Gregg Easterbook of espn.com (Without you guys at espn. I wouldn't have anything good to post!) <Stats of the Week No. 9: Stat that will never be matched: Against Oklahoma State, Baylor gained 622 yards on offense, and lost by 35 points.> OSU's offense yardage? 601. |
| Nov-01-11 | | Jim Bartle: A lot of teams with high-powered offenses give up a lot of yardage on defense. The other team tends to get the ball a lot because the team scores so quickly. And also the good team is often far ahead at halftime, so the subs play a lot in the second half. I'll bet if you look at Oregon's record last year you'd find they gave up a ton of yards despite winning almost all their games by huge margins. |

 | | Phony Benoni: Speaking of offenses, you might want to check out the Glass Bowl on ESPN2. (Yes, they now have bowl games during the regular season). Toledo just took a 60-56 lead on Northern Illinois with four minutes left in the fourth quarter. Not overtime. They're still in regulation. |

 | | Phony Benoni: Here's the recap and stats from the Baylor - OSU game: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo... Simply incredible. Baylor had five turnovers, and was stopped twice on 4th down at the goal line. They got inside OSU's 35-yard line on each of their first five drives, without scoring. Can it ever have happened that a team lost by 35 points without punting a single time? And nearly a 2-1 margin in time of possession? |

 | | WannaBe: Alright <JB>, just for you, I am actually going to do 'research' on that stat... 2010 U. of Oregon stats, total offensive yards. | Nov-02-11 | | Jim Bartle: Opposing offenses didn't do as well as I'd thought. But still, Stanford, Arizona and Arizona St. all gained over 500 yards and lost 21 (Stanford had been ahead 21-3), 19 and 11 points. I listened to the Stanford game, and once Oregon got its offense going it was no contest. Stanford scored 31 in the first half, and ended the game with 31. |

The author spent about two paragraphs on the World Series. It was all about the pennant races that year. |
