http://crooksandliars.com/bluegal-a... Brilliant. |
| Sep-27-13 | | Travis Bickle: <Jim Bartle> Hey Jimbo, I don't have any cousins that are Screwhead Steeler fans! P.S. Hey Phony what time does that Lions Bears game start? ; P |
Sep-27-13
 | | Phony Benoni: <Travis> 1:00 Detroit time, which would be 12:00 Chicago. Lions favored by 3, which I understand means the game is rated even; 3 points is standard home-field advantage. I'd take the points. Bears defense feasts on turnovers, and Lions offense is prone to coughing it up. Were I a betting many,I'd confidently bet a buck on a Bears defensive touchdown. Loss of Nate Burleson, aka the Pizza Delivery Man, is big for Detroit. Their season started going bad last year when he broke his leg. A Wes Welker type (style, not talent), he runs the underneath routes and always seems to get open. He's the Lions' only established receiver threat besides Calvin Johnson, who will be so thoroughly covered that he may be wearing a Bears jersey by the end of the game. |
| Sep-27-13 | | Travis Bickle: I don't know Phony, I think it will be a real close game. The Bears pass rush hasn't been that great so far & Stafford is a very good QB! |

| Sep-28-13 | | Jim Bartle: This is pretty funny. The leftfielder jumps up the fence, can't get the ball, then after he comes down he sees the ball and grabs it. Would have been funnier if the ball had hit off the fence, but still... http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_i... |

 | | Phony Benoni: Naw, it was perfect with Harrelson having to retract his home run call. |
| Sep-28-13 | | Travis Bickle: Hawk Harrelson is the worst announcer in all of sports!! He even says that lame "you can put it on the board yes", during spring training! |
| Sep-28-13 | | Jim Bartle: Which one was Harrelson's call?
And if you want embarrassing announcing, listen to this guy calling the Cardinals winning their division. Their division! http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?content_i... |

 | | perfidious: <Jim Bartle: <perfidious> dropping a line drive intentionally is illegal in double-play situations.> Does that, therefore, come under the infield fly rule, in which all runners advance at their own risk? |
| Sep-28-13 | | Jim Bartle: I'm not sure, but I think the out call ends the play. The runner or runners would go as soon as the ball is dropped, and would be hung out to dry. Here's a play:

| Sep-28-13 | | Travis Bickle: <Jim Bartle> hey Jim is it true you seen Honus Wagner play? ; P |
Sep-28-13
 | | Phony Benoni: Once an infield fly is called, the batter is automatically out. However, the ball remains live, and the play is treated like other fly ball situations except that runnders are not forced to advance if the fly ball is not caught. Once the batter is called out, the force is removed. The line drive rule (6.05i) is a bit different. If an infielder deliberately drops a line drive in an infield fly situation, the batter is declared out and the ball is dead, and runners return to their originial bases. In the clip, if Lowell's throw had been wild the runners could not have advanced since the play ended when he deliberatedy dropped the line drive. The definition of "line drive" leads to some interesting questions: <"A line drive is a batted ball that goes sharp and direct from the bat to a fielder without touching the ground."> Let's say that Brooks Robinson is batting with Boog Powell on second and Frank Robinson on first. He doubles down the left-field line, but thrid-baseman Tony Perez makes a desperate backhanded lunge, knocks the ball down, and is able to grab it an step on third base before Powell slides in. So who is out: Powell on the fOrce, or Brooks ofn the deliberately dropped line drive? |

Hey bartle what is this about? Embarassing announcing or trashing The Cubs? I was an avid fan of The Cubs for over 40 years when I gave up on this ridiculous teams several cheap ownership's who have been BS'ing the fans for decades. I don't give a damn about The Cubs. What I do mind is a horses ass like you trashing me! Why the sarcasm little man? What are you a tough guy all of a sudden? |
| Sep-28-13 | | Jim Bartle: I'm not trashing you, travis. I like you.
I thought the Cards' announcer was waaay over the top, ridiculously so, when they won the division. And if you're upset about the Pittsburgh fan, I just thought it was a funny take on crazy pro football fans. |
Sep-28-13
 | | Phony Benoni: Whoa there, Travis. I didn't catch any sarcasm from <JB>'s directed at anybody, you included. I think we all realize that, no matter how far the Cubs have sunk, they would never hire Hawk Harrelson to broadcast their games. Maybe to play first base, but not to broadcast. |
| Sep-28-13 | | Travis Bickle: <Jim Bartle> I apologize to you about my stupid vindictive comments. I had too much of The Rogoff page & then I misunderstood your comments. Sorry to you again. |
| Sep-28-13 | | Travis Bickle: <Phony Benoni I think we all realize that, no matter how far the Cubs have sunk, they would never hire Hawk Harrelson to broadcast their games. Maybe to play first base, but not to broadcast.> They probably could use harrelson at first LOL! P.S.
Sorry again Phony for starting B.S. in your forum. It won't happen again. You're 1 of my few good pals on here! |
| Sep-28-13 | | Jim Bartle: I enjoy the banter about the Bears and the Lions. Pro football fans have a lot of fun. |
Sep-28-13
 | | Phony Benoni: Thanks, Travis. I needed that because I have just returned from a death defying journey to determine what happens if there is a tie for the AL Wild Card spots at the end of the season tomorrow. Here are the standings with one game to go:
Cleveland 91-70
Taexas 90-71
Tampa Bay 90-71
If Cleveland wins tomorow, they go to the Wild Card game. In that case, should Texas and Tampa remain tied they have a game 163 in Texas. The same situation arises if all three teams lose. If Cleveland loses and only one of the other two wins, there is no further playoff; home field in the Wild Card game is determined by the season series between the two teams. Cleveland would host Texas, but travel to Tampa. However, if Cleveland loses while Texas and Tampa both win, we have the dreaded Three Headed Playoff Monster. Here's the Reader's Digest Condensed Version: Monday: Tampa @ Cleveland. Winner goes to Wild Card game. Tuesday: Monday's loser @ Texas. Winner goes to Wild Card Game. This was determined by ranking the teams accoring to seaon record among them, which produced this order: 1. Cleveland
2. Tampa
3. Texas
Cleveland was given a choice of these three possibilities: A) Two chances to win, one at home, one on the road
B) Two chances to win, both on the road
C) One chance to win, at home
Naturally Cleveland chose A) and Tampa B), but an argument could be made that C) might be a wiser choice. There must be some advantage to getting a day off, then playing a team that has to travel after an emotional loss. |
Sep-28-13
 | | WannaBe: C is most likely better, but the manager knows the pitching rotation/staff better than the (beat) writers. And hence, ergo, therefore. (When does the team have to decide on choice A, B, or C?) Currently, Tampa is finishing their series in Toronto, which wouldn't be that bad (a flight) to Cleveland, if they lose they'd go to Arlington, TX. If they (TB) should win that game, they'd go back to Cleveland for another one-game elimination, and if they win, they'd head to Boston. NL is clearer, Pittsburgh hosts, end of story. If Atlanta and StL finish the season with same record, Atlanta will win on head-to-head (4 to 3). (The Braves are losing right now, at home).
Test on Monday. |
Sep-28-13
 | | Phony Benoni: <WannaBe> I think the article I saw said it was decided yesterday. What usually happens is that front office personnel get together well before the event and make the public decisions, no doubt with heavy input from the managers and on-field personnel. I doubt if anyone would actually have to guts to take choice C. They would be too heavily criticized for gambling everything on one game when they could have had two chances. A) is clearly the best choice, as you get two chances AND a home game. |
