 | | Phony Benoni: It's nice to see, espeically since they added to the lead in the 3rd quarter. If they hang on and then win in Green Bay next week, I may begin to have a bit more faith in them. |

 | | WannaBe: Tigers got no-hit, Marlins won on wild pitch. |
|
Sep-30-13
 | | Phony Benoni: Those last three games meant nothing to the Tigers, but you would like to see better effort than three runs scored in three games against one of the worst teams in baseball. The good news is that their pitching, particularly the starters in the playoffs, was quite good. Those are the guys who will carry them. And how about those Indians? All the other playoff teams were favorites before the season started, but the Indians came from nowhere with a 24-game improvement. Yes, they had an easy schedule in September, but they stayed close enough to benefit. And winning your last ten in a row, when a single misstep might mean elimination, is remarkable regardless of the circumstances. If Terry Francona isn't AL Manager of the Year, than the fix is in. |
|
Sep-30-13
 | | perfidious: <PB>: This Red Sox fan sez Francona should get MOY, despite the outstanding job turned in by John Farrell, which would be enough in many instances. In the NL, Mattingly all the way. The man was a class act as a player and had every right to wilt under the heat he took early on, but showed his mettle and turned that team round. A month or so ago, I told a friend that I should not be at all surprised to see a first in World Series history: Tigers-Dodgers. Much as I want to see the boys from Beantown get back to the winners' circle, I stand by this prediction. |
|
| Sep-30-13 | | Travis Bickle: Congrats Phony, your Lions really beat up The Bears. Ndamukong Suh & company really took advantage of the inexperience of Bears rookie linemen Jordan Mills & Kyle Long, Howie Longs son, who have played great until yesterday. The Bears D was like a sieve against Reggie Bush too. The game wasn't as close as the score indicates. The old Jay Cutler returned again as threw the ball away. We have The Saints next week in Chicago but they better get it fixed on defensive or they will have major problems again. |
|
Sep-30-13
 | | Phony Benoni: Thanks, Travis. I was biting my nails on that second online kick. If the Bears had recovered, scored and gotten their third two-point conversion to tie the game, and then won in overtime ... well, it would not have been a case of Same Old Lions. Even the Old Lions at their worst wouldn't have been able to blow that one. Lions still can't run out the clock late. That's goingt o cost them some day. Now, it's on to Green Bay where they have lost 22 straight, last wining in 1991. <perfidious> Don't know much about the NL, but Los Angeles does seem to have the destiny aura. But it the Tigers get there, it would be interesting to see a match-up against Leyland's old team, the Pirates. The Tigers remain offensively challenged due to one-dimensionality. Keep the ball in the park and force them to play station-to-station, and they generally don't score much. The starting pitching will have to be nearly flawless. |

 | | OhioChessFan: <I was biting my nails on that second online kick.> When did NFL football go cyber? |
|
Sep-30-13
 | | OhioChessFan: I'm totally underwhelmed by the Dodgers and don't quite get the hype. I'm a big believer in run differential, and the Dodgers are mediocre there. However, the Giants had a similarly mediocre run differential last year, so you never know. |
|
| Sep-30-13 | | Travis Bickle: <OhioChessFan> Hey Elvis, how the hell did The Bengals lose to the Browns? |
|
Sep-30-13
 | | OhioChessFan: I think everyone south of Columbus is now given up on the Bungles and rooting for Ohio State. That was beyond an awful game, not as close as the score, they have serious problems. Speaking of which, trade you Daulton for Cutler. |
|
| Sep-30-13 | | Travis Bickle: <OhioChessFan> Nah Cutler has a much stronger arm, plus he is playing in a contract year, so a few more games like yesterday and we can a draft a QB number 1! ; P |
|
| Sep-30-13 | | Jim Bartle: I think Cutler is this generation's Jeff George, a guy with a tremendous arm and good accuracy who somehow doesn't get it done. |
|
| Sep-30-13 | | Travis Bickle: <Jim Bartle> Right on the money Jim! |

 | | perfidious: Government Issue Ants to Super Bowl?
Antrel Rolle believes they can:
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on... Remarkable optimism from someone whose team has displayed a marked inability to get out of its own way so far. |
|
Sep-30-13
 | | Phony Benoni: <perfidious> Well, the Giants are only two games out of first, which in that division means they have as good a chance as anybody to make the playoffs. That's when Eli and Peyton trade identities, so who knows? By the way, I don't see the team capable of stopping Denver, especially at home. Maybe the Patriots, but they'd have to get their act into tip-top form. It's just not fair. The Broncos won 13 games last year, and now they get Wes Welker for Peyton to play chess with. <OCF> I'm continuing to have eye problems, and have been making amusing typos all over the place. Probably the only way I can possibly win Finniest Kibitzer. |
|
Oct-01-13
 | | perfidious: <PB>: Truth is, I agree-that division is putrid and Dallas next have the pleasure of being served up to Broncos. Lucky them. I have told more than one Giants fan I know that, if Big Blue pull their act together, they are not finished by any stretch of things. Nine wins, or possibly even eight, will take that division. |

 | | WCC Editing Project: Good morning.
I'd like to thank you for your contribution to Game Collection: WCC: FIDE WCC Tournament 1948 <...the game Reshevsky vs Keres, 1948 from round 13 is out of chronological sequence. Its date is given at April 19, while the other round 13 game is on April 15 and the round 14 games on April 18. This was probably a postponement for health reasons, but it should be checked to be sure.> I have checked and it turns out your assumption was correct. The game indeed started on 19 April: <The Reshevsky-Keres game had to be <<<postponed till April 19th,>>> as Reshevsky was ill with a sore throat and had to go to bed for a couple of days, during which time he was attended by a Russian doctor."> Harry Golombek, "The World Chess Championship 1948" (Harding Simpole 1949), p.139 So it seems the date on the game is correct. Golombek goes on to say this game was adjourned, but he doesn't say when the game was finished or on what day. Good news because we don't have to submit a correction slip eh? I will post the new information on the game page now. Anyways thank you again, and I hope you are well.
Warm regards,
Jess |

| Oct-02-13 | | technical draw: How about dem Yankees? Bunch of losers. I'm changing back to my old team the Cincinnati Reds. Big red machine time! |
