 | | WannaBe: Times are a changing... For good or bad. |
Nov-09-13
 | | Phony Benoni: <WannaBe> No, that was last weekend. |
| Nov-10-13 | | Travis Bickle: Hey Phoney get your ice cold libasion, they're gonna kick it off!! ; P |
Nov-10-13
 | | WannaBe: That Lions-Bears game is getting interesting. But need to go for 2 to tie. |
Nov-10-13
 | | Phony Benoni: Whew! |
| Nov-10-13 | | Jim Bartle: I'd be interested in stats comparing results from regular plays from the 3-yard line (on third or fourth down) vs. 2-point conversions. I'd swear the conversions are successful at a much lower rate. |
Nov-10-13
 | | OhioChessFan: Hail Mary.......TOUCHDOWN A.J. Green! |
| Nov-10-13 | | Jim Bartle: It just seems teams have a positive mindset from the three on regular plays, but somehow play scared on 2-point conversions. |
Nov-10-13
 | | OhioChessFan: And.........they bungle it in overtime. |
Nov-10-13
 | | WannaBe: Okay JAX won, and is off the no win list, will TB do the same tomorrow night? |
Nov-10-13
 | | Phony Benoni: <JB> Well, obviously two-point conversions succeed more often because they come at the end of touchdown drives when the defense is tired. :-) More seriously, my first reaction is that teams specifically practice two-poiont conversions and have special plays devised for the situation. Selection and execution of the paly is thus more automatic, hence they succeed more often. And there may be a psychological effect as well. The defense has just given up a touchdown, and may be demoralized. |
| Nov-10-13 | | Jim Bartle: But what I see is the opposite. The conversions work less often. The Bears' attempt today is all too common. The rush breaks through, and the quarterback immediately panics. Frankly I wonder if it wouldn't be better to take a 5-yard penalty and run the play from the 8. It's going to be a pass 95% of the time. And it gives receivers more room to operate. |
Nov-10-13
 | | WannaBe: I would like to see the FG or free throw percentage of last 2 minutes (of a player) vs. other 46 minutes of an NBA game. Or the batting average for innings 8 or 9...
It is mental, that is why some player are 'clutch', and can do the 'Drive' like Elway, just my opinion. |
| Nov-10-13 | | Jim Bartle: I agree, wannabe.
Has anybody noticed the increased "hack-a-..." this year? In a game the other night <both> teams were fouling every time, deAndre Jordan and Dwight Howard. |
| Nov-13-13 | | hangingenprise: phony: it finally looks like the lions are in control of their own destiny but are they |
Nov-13-13
 | | perfidious: No surprise in AL Cy Young voting-Scherzer wins a virtually unanimous vote: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on... The following excerpt was, however, a bit of a jolt to your humble kibitzer, who must have missed something: <....(Max) Scherzer was the best pitcher on the pennant winning team, though ballots were cast before the postseason.> |
Nov-13-13
 | | Phony Benoni: <perfidious> No jolt. Just a prophecy. <hangingenprise> Everyone around here is talking byes and homefield advantage for the Liions because their remaining schedule is so week. Well, lit's see: 10: at Pittsburgh
11: Tampa Bay
12: Green Bay (Thanksgiving)
13: at Philadelphia
14: Baltimore
15: NY Giants
16: a Minnesota
Say what you will about sub-.500 records, it wouldn't be hard to lose any of those games. Even Tampa Bay could be a trap game just before Green Bay on Thanksgiving. |
| Nov-13-13 | | Jim Bartle: You're right. A lot of those teams have bad records. But at least four of them are traditionally among the powers and are probably stronger than they seem. Having said that, I never thought I'd see Pittsburgh with a weak defense. Their offense may have been up and down, but they've been a strong defensive team for 40 years. |
Nov-13-13
 | | perfidious: <PB>: That may very well be on the cards for Tigers in 2014. |
| Nov-14-13 | | Jim Bartle: They better sign some relievers. |
Nov-14-13
 | | perfidious: <Jim>: Iglesias playing at short the whole year will only improve the infield defence, which could have been kindly described as below average with Peralta in the mix. |
| Nov-14-13 | | Jim Bartle: Right. That running catch on Ortiz's popup was one of the greatest plays I've ever seen. |
Nov-14-13
 | | perfidious: Yankees will have to sink or swim in '14 without the services of Brian Wilson, who will not shave his beard: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on... Principled man; he already refused an offer of $1m to break out the clippers. |
| Nov-15-13 | | Jim Bartle: Cabrera and McCutchen runaway MVPs. |
Nov-16-13
 | | perfidious: On the potential evils of locking a player up with a massive long-term extension, poster child number 329, Ryan Howard: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on... This brings to mind a stanza from <The Rime of the Ancient Mariner>: <Ah! Well a-day! What evil looks / Had I from old and young! / Instead of the cross, the albatross / About my neck was hung> That is indeed one massive albatross about the neck of Phillies as they struggle to regain relevance in the NL East. |
