Aug-11-14		TheBish: Definitely one of the most brilliant sacrificial games I've ever seen. Morphy would have been proud! While playing Guess the Move for this game, I guessed 18...Bg4 -- instead of 18...Ng4 as played by Gossip, which Steinitz called a waste of time -- and I was penalized a point! Instead I should have been given a full 3 points (as is often done).

Aug-11-14		TheBish: Correction: I wasn't penalized a point (see my previous note), but was given no points. So you don't always get credit for moves superior to the actual game!

I am lucky, I was always a good speller. The only word I have constant trouble with is <separate>. I often write <seperate>.

I often write <seperate> More pedantically, you can remember that separate comes from "se (away from) parare (pare/cut/prepare)" = pare away. Incidentally, when I was working on some publishing project I asked my new girlfriend on the team why she hadn't preferred this really handsome teenage guy over me and she said (I kid you not) that he was the kind of guy who wrote "seperate". That was apparently an even greater faux pas in her eyes than confusing the crab cracker with the fondue fork. Not sure what the moral of that story is, but let it be a lesson to you!

New kibitzers ought to check out the wikipedia link above on page 3 (I think) of the previous postings above to see a biography of Gossip. Fellow kibitzer <FSR> wrote it and other wikipedia articles about chess.

To be fair, he probably wasn't the first or last strong chess player to have an ego problem.
