Mar-17-04 | | Benzol: <drukenknight> For you and the other kibitzers mate. Roland Beyen vs G Klompus, 1968
and
Jorgen Nielsen vs Larsen, 1965
enjoy. |
Jul-03-04 | | Bobsterman3000: Unbelievable. The fianchettoed black bishop was almost worth a queen, LOL> |
Dec-25-04 | | chesscookie: Wow! I think I have a new favorite game. |
Dec-25-04 | | Gregor Samsa Mendel: <ughaibu>--How do you think this game compares with "that other Tal game?" |
Dec-25-04 | | ughaibu: I think this game is fairly straightforward and could have been played by plenty of people, it doesn't have a strong feel of being a Tal game, so I wouldn't suggest it as a "better" game. |
Dec-25-04 | | Gregor Samsa Mendel: Whatever you say--to me, a "fairly straightforward" game is more like this one: Lindemann vs Echtermeyer, 1893 |
Dec-25-04 | | ughaibu: That one too. |
Dec-25-04 | | drukenknight: Thx for entering those other games into the database, Benzol or whomever. |
Apr-22-05 | | fgh: This game is a true masterpiece. |
May-06-05 | | woodenbishop: This game was played by Jesus Christ (through the hand of Tal). |
May-30-05 | | SnoopDogg: Just imagine if Tal was healthy at least 50% of his chess career. Tal might have been more dominant than Kasparov if his health weren't a factor. |
Dec-27-05
 | | offramp: White plays 10.Kb1 with the specific idea of trying to win a pawn - that old trick: 11.Nd5 Qxd2 12.Nxe7+ Kh8 13.Rxd2. So when Tal plays 10...b5 Bobotsov must have thought, "My God, he's fallen for it! The second oldest trick in the book!!" Egg on face, laddie. |
Jan-10-06 | | scared money: They dont come much better than this:Brilliant attack:Looks like Tal saw a few moves into this application. |
Mar-07-06 | | Emma: I agree with Calculoso, Was the sacrifice of the exchange strictly necessary? Not only is he giving up material, but the opening of the knight's file is absolutly devastating for him. |
Mar-07-06 | | Benzol: The fountainhead for this queen sac idea is probably Nezhmetdinov see Zamikhovsky vs Nezhmetdinov, 1956 See my post on the 17th of March 2004 for similar games. |
Mar-27-06 | | Joao Quinta Godinhos: Tal, the greatest player that has ever born, here at his very best! |
Mar-27-06 | | euripides: Two years earlier, in the same year as Nehmetdinov's game cited above, David Bronstein played a very similar sacrifice on the other side of the board. His opponent was Boris Spassky, who became good friends with Tal after the 1958 USSR Championship: Spassky vs Bronstein, 1956. |
Jul-30-06 | | coolzadar: Extraordinary! The position was far from favourable for black after the Queen sac. You have to wonder if this was a blunder, followed by supernatural moves. |
Jul-30-06 | | Benzol: Another more recent example of this sacrifice
R Lanning vs P S Spiller, 1976 |
Feb-13-07 | | nsppp: Another spectacular game.Accepting the queen sacrifice looks dangerous for white. It's interesting to note that after
11...Nxd5 white can play 12.exd5 or cxd5 with approximately equal position. The game's very beautiful and Tal is my favourite player. |
Mar-16-07 | | ayotzinco: For all the lovers of Tal, please go and see the best games of Nezhmetdinov. He's as creative, spectacular and aggressive than Tal and much less famous...Enjoy! |
Jul-25-07 | | Rook in the 7th rank: And that game has never been "Game of the day"?? What a pity. |
Oct-17-07 | | wvkevin: White makes a strategic mistake by castling Queenside, increasing the power of the fianchettoed Black bishop on G7. |
Nov-09-07 | | sallom89: how come this game never been the game of the day ? |
Jan-20-08 | | hedgeh0g: Sheer genius...being able to look this deep into a complex combination is simply incredible. I'm fairly new to chess, but from what I've seen, I think what separates the good from the best is that the best players consider moves which nobody else will. One of my favourite games. |
