Oct-23-06  fran2k: that's really wierd because often a check isn't displayed or a mate or something like that + #
Nov-18-06  syracrophy: <<fran2k: that's really wierd because often a check isn't displayed or a mate or something like that + #>>

Don't worry =) They sometimes post "+" instead of "#". That's thing of all days =P

Phony Benoni: Black must have been so proud to be winning the exchange back. And from Lasker!
Dec-05-11  stacase: Anastasia's mate? Took only as long as needed to notice the Rook on the A column ready to seal the deal.

  gawain: 30 Qxh7+ Kxh7 31 Rh4 mate.

I can never remember the names of the various mates.

Dec-05-11  M.Hassan: "Very Easy" White to play 30.?
White is ahead by a Rook+pawn vs a Knight

Knight on e7 guards g8 and g6, the squares tha King would want to move to so: 30.Qxg7+ Kxg7 forced
31.Rh4#

Dec-05-11  Madman99X: This is very easy if you recognize the pattern. 30 Qxh7+ Kxh7 31. Rh4#
Dec-05-11  dzechiel: White to move (30?). White is up an exchange and a pawn. "Very Easy."

The only tough part about today's position was noticing the white rook on a4. Black must have just played 29...Nc5 with the idea of recovering the exchange. But too bad for him, white now gets to uncork Anastasia's mate with:

30 Qxh7+ Kxh7 31 Rh4#

A pretty way to end the game.

P.S. See my forum if you want to play blitz in southern California this weekend.

An Englishman: Good Evening: Paging Ana Stasia, paging Ana Stasia, white courtesy telephone. And the obvious title for the game? "Un-Fortuijn-Nate Son."

  FSR: Monday, Monday . . . . 30.Qxh7+! is most un-Fortuijn-ate for Black.
Dec-05-11  sevenseaman: Here comes Miss Anastasia again. Over 200 years and Chess World hasn't forgotten Anastasia.

Little chance they ever will; among the top 10 popular thematic mates.

Who was Wilhelm Heinse? Perhaps not everyone will know.

FSR: I love how Lasker's 28.Ra4 provoked the knight fork 28...Nc5. E Canal vs NN, 1934 provides another fine example of how to handle the Center Counter in a simul. See also the Wikipedia article on the latter game, originated by and mostly written by me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peruvi...
Dec-05-11  Teris: If I got it, it must be easy!
Dec-05-11  leonie: very easy even for me. it is a standard mate from the books on tactics.

HeMateMe: It's the old reverse back rank mate.
Dec-05-11  TheRavenPK: The only reason why I looked here was to make me sure that pattern is called Anastasia mate. Good for monday.
Dec-05-11  bachbeet: Got it.
Dec-05-11  morfishine: <30.Qxh7+ Kxh7 31.Rh4 mate>
Dec-05-11  mohannagappan: Mate in two 30.Qxh7+ Kxh7 (forced move) 31. Rh4++ very very easy
Dec-05-11  agb2002: White has a rook and a pawn for a knight.

Black threatens 30... Nxd4, 30... Nxa4 and 30... Rxd6.

The same mate pattern as one week ago, if I remember correctly: 30.Qxh7+ Kxh7 31.Rh4#.

Dec-05-11  zb2cr: Anastasia, your mating pattern is as lovely as yourself. You say I flatter you? Examine the position after 30. Qxh7, Kxh7; 31. Rh4#. Is it not lovely?
Dec-05-11  TheaN: Back from being long gone! Hiya all.

Monday 4 December

<30.?>

Material: White up, ♖+♙ vs ♘

Candidates: Ng6†, <[Qxh7†]>

-ML-
What was the name for such a mating combo again? I forgot. Anyhow, Ng6 flashed my mind first considering I solved a puzzle with such a theme today, but once you see that the correctly placed piece in the white offense is the Knight, the rest becomes easy. The Knight chokes the black King to death after:

<30.Qxh7†! Kxh7 31.Rh5‡ 1-0>

Dec-05-11  TheaN: Oh haha, Rh4 of course. Bah not awake yet I guess. 1/1 anyways.
