Apr-06-06  My Queen is fat: bd6 is the only move!
Apr-06-06  MaCa: What about c6? If white bishop moves (Be5, for example), black always has Bf2+ or Rf2.

Or maybe black can make a temporary pawn sacrifice with a move like Ke7.

Apr-06-06  Micah Hughey: The players can ask the arbiter for a draw. They just can't ask each other.

The arbiter will only accept a draw request in a very simple drawn position. Certainly not in a fairly complicated position like this one.

Apr-06-06  boo1: With 24...Bd6 Toga has this as a dead draw (at depth 19)
Apr-06-06  Whitehat1963: No draw offers allowed? Is that right?
Apr-06-06  AdrianP: <Sneaky> Jeez! I wish I'd known that before that <chessbookie> took my shirt...! (...although the draw bet is not looking too bad at the moment).
Apr-06-06  gmgomes: Draw Agreed! 24...Bd6 25.Bxd6 cxd6 26.Rc4 Rf5 27.Rc8+ Ke7 28.Rc7+ Kxe6

chessgames.com: The relay from the official site has stopped. Hopefully, we'll be getting moves soon.
Apr-06-06  Jim Bartle: Does chessbookie accept bets during the game, with shifting odds?

Apr-06-06  KholdStare: e7 following up with Re6?
Apr-06-06  KholdStare: Well at least scratch the Re6 part. :P

Apr-06-06  Jim Bartle:   "black death: i just say draw and it is a draw."

Hence your nickname.

Apr-06-06  dragunr1: been informed by GM D. Rogozenko that the game resulted in a draw after 24...Bd6 25.Bxd6 cxd4 (cxd6?) 26.Rc4 Rf5 27.Rc8+ Ke7 28.Rc7+ Kxe6 . He is there.

Marmot PFL: If I am arbiter and two guys 2700+ tell me the position is drawn I am not likely to argue. BTW, who is the arbiter?
Apr-07-06  alicefujimori: According to the anotations in <chessbase>, White's never had enough to win.

http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail...

But I wonder why Topalov is playing the Berlin so frequently recently?

Apr-08-06  cannibal: <chessgames> The chessbase-site gives 29 moves instead of 28. (29. Rxg7 Re5+ draw)

However, nobody seems to be sure about how long the game really was, as the transmission broke on move 25.

Apr-22-06  Seethamraju: I did not understand the move 5)d4 Nd6 and also why did not Topalov attack the black queen with his bishop and horse?
Apr-22-06  Seethamraju: sorry its Nisipeanu.
Jun-22-06  LIFE Master AJ: Hmmm, according to TWIC ... AND the ChessBase database ... the game was drawn after Black's 25th move.

(The official website reports that they agreed to a draw, shook hands, and they played a couple of more moves ... as if to show the possible continuation. Is this what threw some parties off? Several on-line chess servers also give this 'version' of the game.)

Jul-16-06  tpx: Official website: 07/04/2006

The first game was declared a draw on the 31st move.
We are sorry to inform you that, because of the great traffic on the web site, the server crashed on the 24th move of the match.
