Jan-20-07 | | Marmot PFL: Probably they will draw soon then we can watch Topalov try to finish off ponomariov. |
Jan-20-07 | | mig55: Qf7 and it looks like a draw |
Jan-20-07 | | chessic eric: <Marmot> I've been watching - and its exciting. The whole board is on the f, g, and h files... |

 | | Mateo: The way Anand is playing this game makes me think to my cat. He catches a mouse. Then he plays with it and at some point the mouse escapes. |
Jan-20-07 | | TheSlid: 40...Qf7 looks drawish alright |
Jan-20-07 | | madlydeeply: now that the good N v Bad Bishop has been resolved looks like a draw But hey these geniuses always have something up their sleeves |
Jan-20-07 | | chessic eric: its time that Radjabov closed the 7th rank with 42...Rf7 |
Jan-20-07 | | Eyal: <Mateo: The way Anand is playing this game makes me think to my cat. He catches a mouse. Then he plays with it and at some point the mouse escapes.> Sounds like an exceptionally nice cat... (or just incompetent?) |
Jan-20-07 | | chessic eric: <madlydeeply: Rd7 h5 Re7 wins a pawn?> I'm confused... 43.Rd7,h5? loses a rook |
Jan-20-07 | | SCUBA diver: Now Anand thinks maybe I should have taken the pawn earlier. ....... |
Jan-20-07 | | mig55: Good that you removed that Rd7 kibitz:-) |
Jan-20-07 | | Marmot PFL: They all do that, but usually catch them later if they are patient, and don't fall asleep. |
Jan-20-07 | | tvasudeva: I think 34 Rcc1 was the mistake from Anand. he could have moved Nf7 and be ahead by a pawn. |

Then he plays with it and at some point the mouse escapes.> Sounds like an exceptionally nice cat... (or just incompetent?)> No, I am just too generous with him when I give him food. He is not hungry! |

Jan-20-07 | | jmelton: 37.Nc4 would have been much better than what Anand played according to Rybka. 37...Rc2 38.Qd6 Kg8 39.Rxc2 Qxc2 40.Nxe5 Bxe5 41.Qe6+ and 42.Qxe5 +1.04 37...Ra2 38.Rb1 Qc2 39.Rg1 Ra8 40.Rb7 Rae8 41.Qd5 Qa2 42.h3 Rd8 43.Qb5
a) 43...Rfe8 44.Qb6 and 45.Qb7 +2.75
b) 43...Rde8 44.Rd1 Qe2 45.Qd5 Qa2 46.Kh2 Qc2 47.Rdb1 h5 48.Nd6 Re7 49.Rb8 Bg7 50.Rxf8+ Bxf8 51.Rb8 Kg7 52.Ne8+ +2.68 (and that's if Black sacs the exchange; otherwise he gets mated quite soon)
c) 43...Bg7 44.Nxe5 Qe6 45.Nd7 Re8 46.Rd1 Qe7 47.Kh2 Rc8 48.Ra7 Qf7 49.Qb7 Qe7 50.Qd5 Qh4 51.Nc5 +1.23 |

Jan-20-07 | | artemis: can we please switch to topalov ponomariov? |
Jan-20-07 | | Eyal: <tvasudeva: I think 34 Rcc1 was the mistake from Anand. he could have moved Nf7 and be ahead by a pawn.> I think 34.Rcc1 was a good decision, but 36.Qd7 rather than Nc4! spoiled his winning chances. |
Jan-20-07 | | nintenchess: official site says draw |
Jan-20-07 | | boz: Have there been any decisive games today? |
Jan-20-07 | | jmelton: <tvasudeva: I think 34 Rcc1 was the mistake from Anand. he could have moved Nf7 and be ahead by a pawn.> Anand could have won the pawn any time he wanted. What he played was correct up until he missed 37.Nc4 (see the earlier analysis by Rybka I posted) which, if followed up correctly, would almost certainly have won the game for him. |
Jan-20-07 | | chessic eric: <boz> not yet, but 4 still in progress, and Topalov looks promising |
Jan-20-07 | | jmelton: Sorry, in my earlier analysis Nc4 was the 36th move, not the 37th. Arena doesn't give move numbers, at least not that I've been able to figure out yet. |
Jan-20-07 | | percyblakeney: This should be the sixth "long" game between Anand and Radjabov. The other five were played in 2003, and the score is even at +1 -1 =4 (Radjabov has had black in four of the games). |
Jan-20-07 | | Ulhumbrus: Instead of 33 Rc5, 33 Qxb3 Qxa5 34 h3 may lead to a win. |
Jan-20-07 | | Eyal: <Ulhumbrus: Instead of 33 Rc5, 33 Qxb3 Qxa5 34 h3 may lead to a win.> After 34...Qc7 (to counter Qe6 with Qe7), I don't see how this is better then what Anand actually played. 33.Rc5 followed by 34.Rcc1 were good moves, and 36.Nc4! (rather than the second-rate 36.Qd7) would probably have won. Black could improve on 34...Rb2, though, by 34...Rb4 (35.Qe6 Rd4) or 34...Ra3 (35.Qe6 Qb3 36.Qd7 [36.Nc4 Ra4] Raa8 37.Rb1 Rad8 38.Qxh7+ Kxh7 39.Rxb3; this is not easy to win for white). |
