Aug-07-07  pawnofdoom: <kevin86> I dont' know if ur joking or not, but I'm pretty sure it isn't the harry potter variation cuz the first game of this "potter variation" of the scotch game was back in 1992, before harry potter Smirin vs V Inkiov, 1992

WannaBe: Not too familiar with the 5. Nb3 variation of the Scotch, I tend to play 5. Be3. The database shows black does pretty well when white plays 5. Nb3.
Aug-07-07  Billy Ray Valentine: Is the pun a Grateful Dead reference? ("Keep on Truckin'" from the song "Truckin'")
Aug-07-07  kevin86: There was a famous Eddie Kendricks song about 35 years ago titled :KEEP ON TRUCKIN'. It became a popular expression during that time.

My Harry Potter comment earlier was a joke-I hope I don't develop Hogwarts because of it. lol

Aug-07-07  wanabe2000: Looks like 9.a4 is the culprit leading to an amazing king hunt.

This is one of <CG>'s better puns, but they are still going to pay a heavy price in the hereafter for their worst. The expression originated with cartoonist Robert Crumb in the 1960s Zap Comix.

Aug-07-07  hpavlo: What is the Harry Potter variation?
Aug-07-07  soberknight: Wow, great pun and a crazy king hunt.
Aug-07-07  beenthere240: <wannabe2000>Actually 9.a4 has been played several times before with black routinely playing 9...a6 to make room for his bishop. The move that seems to have the best track record here (from the Opening Explorer data) is 9. ♗d3. ♗oris Gulko in annotating the game said that 9. ♕e2 had worked out okay, although the track record for that move is less than spectacular for white (3 draws, 6 losses).
Aug-07-07  Fezzik: I looked up the two players and I have the feeling someone is pulling our leg.

These games feel made up, and the names (M-an and T-ruck) are a bit uhmmmmm unusual.

Aug-07-07  Toastman: T-ruck has also played A-kiss. Who doesn't love a good conspiracy theory?

keypusher: <kevin86> the variation is probably named for William Norwood Potter.

See item 368. This is the only game mentioned in the item which is in CG's database.

Aug-24-08  myschkin: . . .
A throwback to the 19th century, when it was almost dishonourable for a gentlemen to refuse any proffered material, however foolhardy its capture: king hunts are a rare visitor to modern tournament play.

In this sharp line of the Scotch with 9.a4 it turns out that the inspired 9...Nxe4!! is a complete refutation.

Even after the book line 9.Qe2 Be6 the position is unclear.

Aug-24-08  ppeti84: Ruck Tamás is a hungarian FM with a rating 2328.He is the elder brother of GM Ruck Róbert. He beated me once,I think he exists, or i have some imagionary friends:D

<ppeti84> do me a favour please:

I go to bed and meanwhile you do a great job in getting some information up (bio, photos, your game, trivia . . . whatever you like) to the page of your "imaginary" friend :D

Robert Ruck

Come on, it's all tabula rasa there^^

GrahamClayton: <kevin86>One of the wildest king hunts I've ever seen. It reminds me of the game that Falkbeer mated in nine with a similar hunt.

Kevin86,
I agree - you don't often see a King Hunt where the King is driven up the board and back down again!

Is this the Falkbeer game you were thinking of?

Apr-04-15  thegoodanarchist: Great game, great pun! Ruck must have relished the opportunity to sac like Tal, repeatedly.
Jan-23-19  EvanTheTerrible: Great game.
Sep-07-20  MordimerChess: This game is insane! Ruhn missed mating sequences a couple of times and Ahn found interesting resources that could look scary over the board.

OhioChessFan: "Ruck Sac" would have been a much better pun. Alas, I am not seeing a different Ruck game it might fit.

  GrahamClayton: After missing a forced mate on move 18, Ruck also misses a forced mate with 24...d5+ 25. Ke3 Nc4 26. Kd3 Re3#.
