Domdaniel: <can he win?> Most unlikely, but it's worth a try. One route is a knight exchange at a point where the pawn ending is favorable, but that's effectively impossible to force.
Mar-01-08  chessmoron: 2:00 morning in India. Your husband may be very lonely.
Mar-01-08  malthrope: <Ulhumbrus: Still playing. Topalov seems to have kept the pawn. Can he win?>

Knight endings with pawns all on the same side (one pawn deficit for either color) are very difficult to produce a win... Most are drawn. I suppose Topy will torture Chuky for awhile anyway. :)

Domdaniel: Draw approaching. I don't think Black can make progress now without giving up a pawn ...
Mar-01-08  chessmoron: ah...a night owl.
Mar-01-08  Ulhumbrus: If Black's N can get to g8 and so defend the h6 pawn, that will prepare ...g6
Mar-01-08  SCUBA diver: If K-d7, Nxp(g7). ..
Mar-01-08  whiteshark: at long last 1/2, concentrating on other things now :D
Mar-01-08  Ulhumbrus: They have agreed a draw, which may mean that the ending is a technical draw with best play.

Domdaniel: If 61...Kd7 then 62.Nxg7! Nxg7 63.Kf6 draws, for example.

Mar-01-08  achieve: <at long last 1/2> Very nice word/number play!! ;-))
Mar-01-08  messachess: Hello all. Wow. Black's 45th was a real Topa move--brilliant.
Mar-01-08  malthrope: Yes - GM Dimitrov's final comment (on Chessdom) was: <"Ivanchuk not only failed to convert his advantage into a point but had to defend a pawn down in time trouble. The position is of course dead draw but we've seen a lot of surprises at this tournament."> Draw agreed.

chessgames.com: Thanks to everybody for joining us today. Please note that tomorrow is a rest day; the games continue on Monday at 10:00am (USA/Eastern). Hope to see you then.
Mar-01-08  pawnofdoom: Amazing move 45. ♘d4 was played by Topa in about 6 seconds! According to the ICC live broadcast which is pretty acurate.
Mar-01-08  Knight13: Rest day tomorrow? What a loser...

Mar-01-08  euripides: It looks tempting for Black to put a minor piece on b5 at about move 28, and play axb5 at the end of the exchanges. However, the structure then produced might allow White chances on the a file, a theme that has come up between these players before:

Mar-01-08  minasina: http://www.chessdom.com/morelia-lin... this was live commentary with GM Vladimir Dimitrov
Mar-02-08  Gameoverziggy: <messachess: Hello all. Wow. Black's 45th was a real Topa move--brilliant.> A good move but not a brilliant move just seems like regular tactical stuff for GMS
Mar-02-08  SetNoEscapeOn: Yeah I agree maybe a Thursday puzzle at best. Topalov has made plenty of moves in a much higher class.
Mar-02-08  znprdx: 52...g6 53.h5xg6 Kxg6 I've seen this kind of splitting the pawns win

What do the computers think 52.Black to move...?

Feb-29-16  michael350: Really..
