Sep-08-08  suenteus po 147: With a twenty minute advantage I'm guessing Radjabov is hoping to use the time pressure to force a blunder out of Topalov. Topalov's king is less secure than Radjabov's so he will need to be careful at key junctures throughout the shifting position.
Sep-08-08  boz: Even if Topalov dooesn't blunder he may just run out of time.
Sep-08-08  Mulyahnto: 65. ... ♗d6 seems inaccurate.
Sep-08-08  badest: That's a long think for 2 possible moves. (unless the transmission is messed up...)
Sep-08-08  Kings Indian: Repitition in the works.
Sep-08-08  Mulyahnto: they're putting on their jackets
Sep-08-08  Marmot PFL: Drawn
Sep-08-08  Mulyahnto: i guess not post mortem
Sep-08-08  Marmot PFL: Probably white had some improvements, but good defense by Radjabov.
Sep-08-08  badest: <Mulyahnto: they're putting on their jackets> Man they really got the AC going ... ;)
Sep-08-08  Waitaka: The longest game until now.

chessgames.com: Thanks to everybody for joining us for today's live broadcast. The action continues tomorrow at 11:00am (USA/Eastern). Hope to see you then.
Sep-08-08  Udit Narayan: Go Carlsen!!!
Sep-08-08  Geronimo: Gotta hand it to both of them to keep going until the draw was totally and absolutely accomplished. Good night from Nairobi.
Sep-08-08  ToTheDeath: I'm impressed. Radjabov really showed tenacity in a difficult position.
Sep-08-08  Stoned Knight: Am I the only one to think that Topalov looks like Gargamel? And he shouldnt be allowed to wear shirts like that. Beside, the Java applet on the website sucks.
Sep-08-08  Ulhumbrus: An alternative to 12 Nd2 is 12 h3. On 12..Bxf3 13 Bxf3 gains the bishop pair.
Sep-08-08  Ulhumbrus: On 31 e5 Black can't play 31...dxe5 as White has the threat of 32 f5. However 31...Ne7 prevents f5 and so makes...dxe5 possible.

On 32 Rae4 Black is able to clear the 6th rank for his R on b6 by 32..dxe5.

This suggests the alternative 32 e6. On 32 e6 fxe6 33 Rxe6 Nf5 34 Rae4 Rxe6 35 Rxe6 threatens Rxg6 followed by Nh4. eg 35...Qb8 36 Rxg6 Kxg6 37 Nh4+ Kf7 38 Qxf5+ Ke8 39 Qg6+ Kf8 40 Nf5

Sep-09-08  whatthefat: A really tough defensive game for Radjabov. The last portion of the game looks like the kind of thing you'd expect between two computers before the human controllers step in and call a draw.

An Englishman: Good Evening: It must have been frustrating for both players to fight with such determination and creativity only to see the game peter out into a draw because on this day the opponent is just as good as you.
Sep-09-08  Red October: it still says uncommon opening in the classification A00
Sep-09-08  Ulhumbrus: On 32 e6 fxe5 33 Rxe6 Black has 33...Nf8. However on 32 e6 fxe6 33 dxe6 Nf8 34 Nh4 begins preparations for Nxg6 followed by f5 with a pawn roller, and what is Black going to do to answer the threat? On 34...d5 35 Bxc5 Rxe6 36 Rxe6 Nxe6 37 Bxe7 removes the Ne7 which defends the g6 pawn a second time.
Sep-09-08  KarAkter: 30.Nd2 with idea Nc4 seems good to me
Sep-14-08  goldenbear: I would have played 10.Qd2 exd5 11.exd5 Kh7 12.h4, and depending on the circumstances, I would have 0-0-0 or hid my king on f1. 10.Nf3 is not in keeping with the spirit of the position in my opinion.
Sep-21-08  whatthefat: It would seem that Topalov resorted to extreme measures to try to win this game: http://www.chessbase.com/news/2008/...
