Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-06-10  atragon: Very impressive from Caruana. Bad game from Landa.
Complimenti, Fabiano.
Jan-07-10  Bobsterman3000: Maybe O-O-O would have been better for Landa? He was doing fine even after 14.Qxd4.

15...Rae8 seems pretty passive when it's very obvious that Caruana will soon start a KS pawn storm.

Also, if black is going to play c5 he should have played it a whole lot sooner, back when the move could have been the start of some QS counter play.

Jan-07-10  tibone: caruana´s plan wasn´t that subtle was it? Landa should have done something to meet it.
Oct-08-10  kurtrichards: That was Fabiano when his elo was 2652. Now he has improved a lot and sporting an elo of 2710 (liverating). May your winning ways continue.
Jan-11-11  Captain Hindsight: Better would have been 16...f6 .

  LoveThatJoker: Great game from Caruana! If 25...gxh5 26. Rxe7+ Kh8 (best) 27. Rxe8

LTJ

Feb-02-13  morfishine: Smooth finish by Caruana
Feb-02-13  Abdel Irada: All of White's pieces enter the attack while the black queen sits on a6 meditating on her navel.
Feb-02-13  wlg: Nice game and ending from Caruana

If 25...gxf5
26.Rxe7+ Kh8
(if 26...Kf8 27.Rf7+ Kg8 28.Rf5+ and Rxh5#)

27.Rxe8+ Kh7
28.Bg8+ Kh8
(if 28...Kh6 29.Re6+)

29.Bf7+ Kh7
30.Bg6+ Kh6
31.Rh8#

Penguincw: If 25...Kf8, then 26.Qxg6, and white will eventually mate on f7.
Feb-02-13  kevin86: The discovered check is so strong that even the queen can be left en prise.
Feb-02-13  shakman: Pretty deep theory here .... another game Ni Hua vs A Giri, 2010
Feb-02-13  Namawiz: Nice pun.
Feb-02-13  rilkefan: Stockfish prefers 16...a6 (then ...b6 and ...f6 and a slow qside expansion, about +0.4). It liked ...Qc6 more on the previous move, and thinks ...Re7 was better two moves earlier, when black's still in the game (+0.6) instead of lost.
Feb-02-13  vnkn: can someone explain the pun to me?
Feb-02-13  vnkn: Is landa supposed to mean something special other than the fact that it's Landa's last name?
Feb-03-13  IndigoViolet: Crash lander/landed/landing - it means coming to Earth with a bump.
