Dec-15-15 | | Abdel Irada: <Viola!>
Bass fiddle!
∞ |
Dec-15-15 | | Ratt Boy: I think this one was tougher than the usual Tuesday, because one would generally look to mating on h2. Took me awhile to find ...♖xc2. |
Dec-15-15 | | Underworld: 23...♖xc2 is a nice tactical play and wins a piece, and is probably the best move to play. If black plays 23...Bxd5, then white can fight back with: 23...♗xd5, 24.exd5 ♗f4, 25.h3 ♕g3, 26.♕g1 ♘e7, 27.♖xa5 g6, 28.♖a8+ ♔g7, 29.♗d4 - Decent position for white with a passed b-pawn. |
Dec-15-15 | | Underworld: It is notable to say for my previous post that taking the knight on d5 with black's light squared bishop takes away black's ability to attack h3 if white uses it for defense. |
Dec-15-15 | | dfcx: Material is even. Looked for mate and did not find any. Then realized that white queen's "pin" actually gives black the chance to win a piece. 23...Rxc2!
24.Qxh4?? Rc1+ mates in 2. |
Dec-15-15 | | Kasparov Fan: if you look for a mate in this position it will take a considerable amount of time before realising that it's not possible but luckily I've always had a knack for selecting candidates first and because of it I'm not that good a tactical player positional chess is more to my style. So because of my style this puzzle looked more like a monday puzzle. |
Dec-15-15
 | | OhioChessFan: I was wondering why I thought this would have been an easy Monday and saw others thought it was a hard Tuesday. I think <KF> might be right for I surely have better positional than tactical skills. |
Dec-15-15 | | Underworld: I play this variation often as black, and I can tell you that if white played such bad moves, then it would be an easy win for me too. |
Dec-15-15 | | dukesterdog2: I spent a few minutes trying to find a way to bash through the pawns before noticing how vulnerable the white king was behind that wall with only the queen back there to protect him. Then the solution became clear, since the queen is forced to remain on the back rank to prevent the rook from mating the trapped king, black's rook can take the knight for free. |
Dec-15-15 | | Virgil A: Easily saw 23...Rxc2
Then saw the U10.
Considering, a superb move by Black. |
Dec-15-15 | | Sularus: RxN. punish that back rank |
Dec-15-15 | | kevin86: I was looking for another Qxh2+ move, but it didn't work. The solution lies in the back row weakness of white. Black takes the knight with the rook. If black takes the rook, the queen is lost and if QxQ , The rook mates on the back row. |
Dec-15-15 | | paavoh: Took more time than usually on Tuesday,
but eventually found Rxc2. |
Dec-15-15 | | dark.horse: To quote Whiteshark: "Rxc2 and that's it." |
Dec-15-15 | | starry2013: I hate Mondays/Tuesdays were it absolutely looks like a mating probem but isn't. I think I considered everything but Rxc2. You don't normally leave you queen open to capture. And I was looking through varous lines where one of the knights helped protect on the back rank anyway, so that aspect didn't end up coming to me. |
Dec-15-15 | | MichaelJHuman: I saw the move made, but wondered what the continuation is for 24. Qd4 Rook could take g2.
Then Kxg2, Ne5 forks was the line I looked at which would be devastating. Is 24. Qd4 a bad idea then? |
Dec-15-15 | | sfm: <23 ... If black plays 23...Bxd5, then white can fight back with: 23...♗xd5, 24.exd5 ♗f4, 25.h3 ♕g3...>
Or maybe Black would at this point prefer 25.-,Rxc2 :-) |
Dec-15-15 | | stst: <leave you queen open to capture..>
Is Q-sac very common?
<like a mating probem but isn't..>
It is! But just come a little late should White responded inappropriately. Also, a high-level chess, mating is often quite UNnecessary! just making the opponent feeling in lurch...or stymied - sometimes it's even better than mating!! |
Dec-15-15 | | CHESSTTCAMPS: Black has the bishop pair versus B+N, with material even otherwise. Both back ranks are vulnerable, but only black is strongly positioned to exploit white's weakness with 23... Rxc2! 24.Ra1 (Qxh4 Rc1+ mates in 3) Qxe1+ and white's extra piece will prevail. |
Dec-15-15 | | Herma48852: 23. .. Rxc2 and there goes the White knight as a recapture by the bishop loses to the discovered queen capture with mate. |
Dec-15-15 | | Tiggler: Wow! Completely missed the winning shot. Not that I did not find a winning line, of course, but that move makes any other choice seem lame. (I had Bxd5, followed up with Bf4) |
Dec-15-15 | | Tiggler: <CliftonJ: 23...Bxd5 24. exd5 Bf4 25. Qg1> ..Rf1 wins |
Dec-15-15 | | nariga: How about 24.Qg1 Rc1 25.Bf1 followed later by g2 to create some room for K. |
Dec-16-15 | | Sularus: <chrisowen> spot on, mate! |
Dec-16-15 | | starry2013: me <like a mating probem but isn't..>
stst: <Also, a high-level chess, mating is often quite UNnecessary! > I know that. But Monday/Tuesday isn't high level chess. |
