|Jun-19-18|| ||lost in space: Took me a while to find 29...f5. I was locking first to backrank-motives but without luck/success ....|
|Jun-19-18|| ||gawain: Like several other solvers I was fixated on the lure of a back rank mate. Could not see the winning move.|
|Jun-19-18|| ||Wallac: Got this pretty much right away....... for once haha|
|Jun-20-18|| ||messachess: Ha ha ha! I actually did not see the simple pawn move. Looking for that back rank mate.|
|Aug-10-18|| ||OhioChessFan: <OCF: This is a rare occasion where I think a position presented as a puzzle makes it harder to find than it would have been over the board. I'm with the group who was tantalized by the back rank weakness and spent a lonng time looking for some way to take advantage of it. I think it might have been easier to find on a Wednesday or Thursday, for that matter, just to get me away from trying to displace that dastardly d2 Knight.>|
And it was only June 18th.....I had already forgotten that. Same thing again today.
|Aug-10-18|| ||yadasampati: <OhioChessFan> It was June 19th, which was a Tuesday. I said it before: why does CG repeat puzzles from the very recent past, and why are they not consistent in the weekday?|
|Aug-10-18|| ||OhioChessFan: <yada> the website owner/webmaster died recently. There are a number of resulting problems with the daily operations. The repetition of puzzles is one symptom. Hopefully this will get cleared up soon.|
|Aug-10-18|| ||leRevenant: Also, <chrisowen>'s literary style has changed noticeably. Is there some subtle connection?|
|Aug-10-18|| ||ChessHigherCat: I remembered this one but it's worth a second look. That said, anybody have an idea for a Friday puzzle?|
|Aug-10-18|| ||Jimfromprovidence: I don't know if this is a Friday level puzzle but it's real good. Move 29, white to play and win.|

|Aug-10-18|| ||Mayankk: Thank JFP. Got the idea behind knight sac and the resulting fork possibilities. I didnít notice the subsequent second Rook sac at first glance but thatís probably okay.|
Does it make a difference as to which knight do we move first to e4?
|Aug-10-18|| ||saturn2: <Jim> I got the basic idea but my follow up differs a bit from the game.|
29. Nce4 dxe4 30. Nxe4 Kf8 31. Qd6+ Kg7 32. Nf6 Qh4 33. g3 Qh6 34. Nxg8 Kxg8 35. Rxc6 bxc6 36. Qxb8 Qf8

If 29 Nge4 black can complicate things with 29..Rxg1+|
|Aug-10-18|| ||MrCarciofo: Already used as POTD; maybe a year ago or so. a few seconds and I remembered f5. And I also remembered that a year ago I couldn't find this move.|
|Aug-10-18|| ||malt: Thanks <Jim> I had Puzzle to put forward. |
I got 29.Nce4 de4 30.N:e4 Rf6 31.R:c6 bc6 32.Rd1 Kf8 33.g4 Qh6 34.Qd6+
|Aug-10-18|| ||Patriot: <Jim> I was thinking 29.Qc2 followed by 30.Na6.|

|Aug-10-18|| ||lzromeu: Did it in seconds, easy.
What could black have to do anymore?
|Aug-10-18|| ||lzromeu: Reading anothers comments...
I was looking for back-rank mate too, but needed the bishop to threat D2, and for this, need to atack g5, and for this needed remove the rook threat, and then I saw the rook is dead.

I am sorry to hear that.
|Aug-10-18|| ||OhioChessFan: <Rev: Also, <chrisowen>'s literary style has changed noticeably. >|
Yeah, it's rather poor lately. Hope you can get your A game back, <co>
|Aug-10-18|| ||PJs Studio: I found f5 as the best method for attacking the battery piece as blacks king is short of squares. I thought thereíd be a follow up. Not bad for a Friday.|
|Aug-10-18|| ||CHESSTTCAMPS: Black has B+P for a knight. White's discovered check threat of 30.Nxe6+ is not compelling, but against nervous opposition might draw losing blunders 29... Kh8??? or 29... Kf8???. |
In fact, white has overloaded his rook, which can be exploited with 29...f5! 30.Rh4 Bxg5 31.Rxh5 Bxd2 winning.
Probably intended as a one star puzzle.
|Aug-10-18|| ||thegoodanarchist: I solved it instantly this time! :)|
|Aug-12-18|| ||yadasampati: <OhioChessFan> Thank you for your answer|
