ARNOLDO ELLERMAN
(born Jan-12-1893, died Nov-21-1969, 76 years old) Argentina

A respected chess composer and writer. Ellerman, the son of Dutch parents, composed some 5,840 chess problems, winning 115 first prizes, 152 second prizes, 69 third prizes, and two gold medals, in 1952 in Helsinki and in 1964 in Tel Aviv.

In 1959, in Luxembourg, the International Chess Federation awarded him the title of International Master of Composition, he was further awarded the title Honoris Causa together with four other classical problemists. The updated list of International Masters of Composition can be found on the website of The World Federation for Chess Composition (WFCC). At the time of his death, the title of Grand Master for Chess Composition did not yet exist.

He was elected president of the first World Congress of Problemists held in Yugoslavia in 1958.

From 1915 he was director of the Club Argentino de Ajedrez magazine, between 1939 and 1948 director of the Caissa magazine, of the Grabo publishing house, 6 and later he edited the magazine El Ajedrez Argentino.
