Cuban champion in 1927 and 1929. In 1941, he broke all simultaneous records by playing 618 opponents at 103 tables in Havana. Six players consulted at each table. He won 64, drew 26, and lost 13. It took him 16 hours to finish and he walked over 15 miles.

  Fusilli: There was no date of death in the bio. I just added 1990 based on this page:

The page (in Spanish) specifies that Planas Garcia died in 1990. Even if that were wrong, it does sound more accurate than to suggest he is still alive at 114!

Apr-20-22  Cibator: If I understand Spanish naming customs correctly, then he ought to be alphabetised under "Planas" - his father's family name - not "Garcia", which would have been his mother's.

It's as "Planas" that he's mentioned in Golombek's "The Game Of Chess".
