nasmichael: What is some of Mestrovic's history?

TheAlchemist: <nasmichael> According to the Slovenian Chess Federation (http://www.sah-zveza.si/projects/id...) he was born on October 17, 1944, is an IM, his current Elo rating is 2372 and he currently plays for Triglav Krsko in Slovenia. I know he is a great blitz player and that he has championed 1.Nc3 as White and 1.e4 Nc6 as Black, with some success as well.

His last great tournament result I know of was in Nova Gorica 2003, when he finished joint first, but got only fourth prize. There he lost the first two games, but then won 6 games in a row. In the last round, he had White against eventual winner Pavasovic, but offered (or accepted) a quick draw. He (obviously) preferred to secure fourth place than risk slipping back too far.

Jan-02-09  M.D. Wilson: I know someone with this surname. Is Mestrovic a common surname?
Feb-07-09  M.D. Wilson: He was fond of 1. Nc3. Very interesting.
Nov-28-09  KOCMOHAYT: <M.D. Wilson> Yes surname is quite often among Croats. exists also among Serbs.
Nov-28-09  vsadek: <M.D. Wilson> The Mestrović surname that sounds familiar to you is probably Croatian sculptor Ivan Meštrović. Here is the Wiki article about him: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivan_M...
