Frank Penlington Hutchings, an Electrical Engineer, was born in 1936. He was New Zealand Junior Champion in 1953 and won the State Championship of Victoria, Australia in 1969. He also won the Correspondence Chess Championship of Australia in 1989 and 1993. In 1970 he married Cecil John Seddon Purdy 's daughter and became Purdy's chess sparring partner and confidant.

  Stonehenge: On the 10th January, he was in the garden of his longtime North Epping Sydney home taking out the rubbish when he fell and hit his head on concrete, dying in hospital the same day.
