Nov-18-03   Shadout Mapes: <He had rented a nearby hotel room for two weeks at the Beltline Highway Hotel with a Jacuzzi. He had bought several bottles of liquor, two shot glasses, two dozen condoms, three bottles of Viagra with the prescription in Sherzer's name, and two sex toys from Tillman's Corner sex shop. He also had books including "Secrets of Seduction," "How to Be the Best Lover a Girl Ever had," "A Guide to Picking up Girls," "How We Change After We Los Our Dads," and "Lolita.">

Sounds like he deserved to be put away.

An interesting note - Judit Polgar was a character witness.

Eggman: <I find it hilarious that a guy with the name RKelley would be talking about this subject!>

LOL. I hadn't noticed. I hope you don't take offense RKelley, but that is pretty funny.

Nov-18-03   RKelley: His name is Robert Kelly, my name is Robbie Kelley. He is African I am of Irish descent. Quite a big difference :)
Nov-26-03   PinkPanther: <Lol, I find it hilarious that a guy with the name RKelley would be talking about this subject!>

Haaaaaahahahahaa, that's one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

Dionyseus: The Polgars and Suzie Polgar's husband were character witness for their friend Sherzer. He was declared not guilty.
Nov-30-04   nopawnintended: The FBI's m.o. in these cases is to engage the suspect in increasingly lurid conversation. The laundry list of sex props mentioned in shadouts kibbitz (assuming it's correct) was probably all prompted or suggested by the agent who he was chatting with. They do this so that they can present physical evidence when its time to prosecute. It is a rotten business and does nothing to go after the real peds who do that kind of thing without FBI manipulation...
Apr-05-05   DP12: This whole thing just shows how little this guy knows about girls(which is clear by his personality and also his desperate moves). No girl is going to talk to super sexual to a guy off the bat and then go meet him. Fellows, if any "woman" does this to you--- you are talking to a man,so run... unless you happen to be into that sort of thing, which is cool.

Appaz: In Norway the cops are not allowed to provoke crimes, wich seems right.

waddayaplay: <non-chess topic note> Someone asked about the rate of prison inmates in U.S. compared with other countries. Most countries in Europe have ca 100 inmates / 100,000 inhabitants (England & Wales 125, Germany 97, Italy 90). The U.S. has 682 / 100,000. It is however second to Russia with 729.
Feb-22-06   ughaibu: How about Nauru?
Feb-23-06   ughaibu: Waddayaplay: Have you a link to further figures? I'm particularly interested for Central and South America.

al wazir: Why are there no Sherzer games after 2001?
Apr-18-06   mack: I read 'Alan Shearer' when I first looked at this bloke.

Marmot PFL: I played this guy a few years ago in a tournament in N. Carolina, and remember seeing him around the hotel with a cute blonde girl who looked about 15-16...The game itself was fairly interesting, with his mating attack getting there just as I was about to promote with check. Afterward we talked about chess a little -Sherzer was bitter about not getting the Samford fellowship as a junior and was thinking about leaving chess.

And joining Newcastle United?

Jul-30-07   belgradegambit: Looks a little like Matt Damon.

hedgeh0g: Could you say the police offered Sherzer a poisoned pawn and he accepted?
Dec-23-07   Jim Bartle: "And joining Newcastle United?"

Looks more like a rugby player to me.

May-25-08   kramputz: This is interesting about the case:
