Played in Tarvisio, Italy 13-25 November 2017. The 18-year-old Aryan Tari held top seed Jorden van Foreest to a draw in the final round to take the U-20 title, receiving congratulations from compatriot Magnus Carlsen of Norway. 12-year-old Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa of India (7) picked up his 1st GM norm at Italy soon after becoming the then world's youngest IM up to this date. Chithambaram V R Aravindh and Manuel Petrosyan captured bronze and silver medals at the top score group as well. GM Murali Karthikeyan scored eight points along with van Foreest, IM Praggnanandhaa and FIDE Master Aleksey Sorokin (+4-2=1 versus 2 compatriot Grandmasters and 5 foreign GMs; +1-0=1 vs 2 IMs and 2/2 vs FIDE Masters could put him on track for the norm he seeks). The thirteen-year-old U-14 WYCC champion Dambasuren Batsuren scored 5.5 points after eleven rounds for his home country of Mongolia. Alexandr Triapishko (who topped the 2017 WYCC U-18 (1) charts at 8.5/11 with Jose Eduardo Martinez Alcantara of Peru) scored 7.5/11 and Ecuador's Kevin Noboa scored 4.5 (on par with Richard Chen and twenty other players in their finishing score group) after winning the bronze at the 2017 WYCC U-18. Luca Moroni Jr scored 7 and 6.5 points at these two tournaments; Pablo Ismael Acosta scored 7 and 5.5 points, respectively; England's Ravi Haria scored 5.5 and 6, and Paraguay's Juan Heinechen 5 and 4 in each of these two tournaments as well. Of untitled finishers, Yuanhe Zhao was nearest to the top, finishing with 6.5/11 (+0-1=2 vs GMs, +2-2 vs IMs, +1 vs a FIDE Master) and an overall slight gain of rating points. | | Tabanus: http://chess-results.com/tnr305835.... I thought this was the official results, and e-mailed Chess-Results about the missing games from round 11 (they have all games from rounds 1-10). I got this reply: "sorry, but I am not involved in the World Junior Championship. Please contact the organiser". And so I did. I just wrote to the organizer, using the form at http://www.fideacademy.com/wjcc2017... <Dear organizer, for PGNs and results, your official page on the event refers to "Chess-Results" (only), but they are missing the games from round 11 (they have all games from rounds 1-10). Also I got the message from Chess-Results that "sorry, but I am not involved in the World Junior Championship. Please contact the organiser".I don't understand this. Where exactly to find the official results? And the games? I sincerely thought it was Chess-Results who had it.> I'll keep you updated on the answer (if any). It's also very possible I've missed a point or three here. ---
Regarding the World Junior Championship (2016), the claim-to-be "official page" at http://www.wjcc2016india.com/ has no results or games (AFAICS). Then http://chess-results.com/tnr233622.... has the results, but no games. Perhaps they were not involved there either? Perhaps a solution for CG could be to call it World Juniors Open (2016) and strip Xiong of his title. |
