Oct-22-15 | | parmetd: Kramnik 3-0! He may get that rating spot yet. |
Oct-22-15 | | Tiggler: Brilliant win by Kramnik vs Topalov in round 5 |
Oct-22-15
 | | chancho: These two make for interesting fights.
And they HATE each other. |
Oct-22-15
 | | HeMateMe: Well, how would YOU like people telling you when you can and can't go to the bathroom? |
Oct-22-15 | | Tiggler: <chancho: These two make for interesting fights. And they HATE each other.>
Perhaps they are the best of chums but put out the opposite to give the journalists something to write about. Since hardly anyone can understand their chess, that is. |
Oct-22-15 | | jphamlore: Grischuk versus Caruana is a very underrated budding rivalry. Those two seem to have decisive games almost every time they play. |
Oct-22-15
 | | plang: <chancho: These two make for interesting fights. And they HATE each other.>
Do we really know that for sure or do people just want to believe it? It has been almost a decade - you would think they have gotten over it. |
Oct-22-15
 | | HeMateMe: They'll probably have a checkers smack down in the nursing home? |
Oct-22-15 | | sonia91: <Topalov Didn't Let Kramnik Use Extra Lighting. Kramnik: "That's Okay, I'm Even Better in Blindfold!"> http://chess-news.ru/en/node/20317 |
Oct-22-15 | | bobthebob: <It has been almost a decade - you would think they have gotten over it.> Interesting question - I don't remember how much was actually driven by Topolov vs. by his manager. But maybe that doesn't matter to Kramnik. |
Oct-22-15 | | fisayo123: So SOCAR have been knocked off their perch by the newest behemoth team of Siberia? |
Oct-22-15 | | waustad: An interesting matchup tomorrow could be Ragger vs Hammer, though the Oslo team might go with Agdestein instead. They are two players who have approached but never quite made it into the 2700 club. |
Oct-23-15 | | jphamlore: <fisayo123: So SOCAR have been knocked off their perch by the newest behemoth team of Siberia?> At one time Siberia was hoping to have Ding Liren play for them back in May but he had visa problems? http://www.chess.com/news/star-stud... |
Oct-23-15 | | jphamlore: I just wish Wang Yue had had a chance to play in more strong individual events this year other than Danzhou, because he's been on fire. |
Oct-23-15
 | | Troller: <waustad: An interesting matchup tomorrow could be Ragger vs Hammer, though the Oslo team might go with Agdestein instead. They are two players who have approached but never quite made it into the 2700 club.> The difference is of course that Hammer may yet crack it, relatively young as he is. Whereas Agdestein would have been easily 2700+ had the rating inflation taken place when he was young; Chessmetrics have him peaking as #12 in the world in 1989, he was a very strong player then. He chose a civilian career instead though, just like Hjartarson and C Hansen, two other promising Nordic GMs of roughly same age. |
Oct-23-15 | | FairyPromotion: Troller, I'm pretty sure waustad was talking about Ragger, not Agdestein. |
Oct-23-15
 | | keypusher: <Fishy> <little fairy Fabiano> Seriously? What are you, twelve? And if you accusing him of cheating, then when why don't you say so clearly? Be a man! |
Oct-23-15
 | | Troller: I probably stand corrected - of course he meant Ragger. Among the interesting games today we find
<Ivanchuk-Kramnik>
An almost classical match. Kram has a lifetime edge of 10-5, but obviously this game can be anything - also with regards to opening. <Aronian-Tomashevsky> The Russian champ vs the faded superstar. They have played only 3 classical games, with Toma having a single win. <Jakovenko-Grischuk> Two of the strongest Russians, although maybe not a crowd-puller. Depending on Grischuk's mood, a draw seems also rather likely. <Li Chao b-Andreikin> Li Chao is relatively untested at highest level. Andreikin is a strong practical player who can offset almost anyone. Where Li Chao has a very classical repertoire, Andreikin is more of a freestyle player. <Topalov-Wojtaszek>
Topa is probably hungry for revenge after yesterday's loss against his arch enemy. Their last two games have been Najdorfs (with Topa as white), Wojta winning 2 years ago in this same tournament, and Topa winning last year in the Olympiad. So heavy tension in the opening here! <Laznicka-Adams>
An interesting pairing with their crazy World Cup match in mind. But we also have <Harikrishna-Giri>, <Caruana-Navara>, <Radjabov-Sasikiran>, <Nepomniachtchi-Leko>, <Karjakin-Inarkiev>, <Najer-Nakamura> and <MVL-Dubov> just to name a few. Lots of entertainment on a Friday afternoon. |
Oct-23-15 | | Chuckles: Kramnik again! |
Oct-23-15 | | sydbarrett: Re:Troller
Aronian is still #7 in the world. Pretty harsh to consider him faded 😉 |
Oct-23-15 | | fisayo123: Siberia is the new best super team in town. I like the line up. A mix of youth/experience, tactical/positional style players. They've taken the crown from SOCAR. |
Oct-23-15 | | Mr. V: Too many good games to follow!
Check this out: Rublevsky vs Adams, 2015 |
Oct-23-15 | | guenther42: So much incredible parity in the top 100 or so. This IS the "good old days"! Amazing. 2015 has seen a remarkable shifting of the top 10, even the top 25. Hikaru Nakamura is hitting the wall lately, and the phoenix arises once again in Vladimir Kramnik. Meanwhile, Magnus Carlsen, whose "S" has acquired some dirt spots, floats at 2850, almost 50 points above the lower pantheon. Even God throws tantrums! 2015 has just been so exciting. |
Oct-23-15 | | jphamlore: Ivanchuk got exactly what he deserved for playing such a feckless Italian Game as White. Why has this become fashionable. There are far worse things than a Berlin Ruy Lopez. |
Oct-23-15 | | waustad: <troller> I was including Ragger as one of the two who've approached 2700. He has gotten as close as 2699.5 in the live rating. I'm aware that it would be much more difficult for Simen Agdestein to pick up that much rating at this stage of his career. |
