 | | Check It Out: <SirRuthless> That's true but I don't see anyone overdoing it here as you imply. |
May-07-13 | | SirRuthless: Magnus did NOT win. Turns out Karjakin won on 6.5 points people are saying. The Chessbomb transmission was wrong. Also Svidler on 5.5 points. |
May-07-13 | | darshandatta: <Check It Out> according to official website Karjakin won with 6.5/9 |
May-07-13 | | SirRuthless: From official site.
1. Karjakin 6.5
2. Carlsen 6
3. Anand 6
4. Nakamura 6
5. Svidler 5.5
6. Radjabov 5
7. Hammer 3.5
8. Wang 3
9. Aroian 2.5
10. Topalov 1.0
(Tiebreake 2,3 and 4.th place: Carlsen on most games with black pieces, Anand with 2 victories with black aganist Nakamuras 1 victory) During the evening the setup for the rest of the tournament will be ready and published on this webpage. |
May-07-13 | | hellopolgar: I am sure any of these 2700+ players will have no problem beating Jon Ludvig Hammer even with black. So an extra black against Jon Ludvig Hammer wouldn't really be all that bad. |
May-07-13 | | SirRuthless: Maybe but he might be tougher than he looks. The extra white is nice no matter what. Also how do we know who out of the bottom half of the blitz will get black vs Hammertime? Maybe they will get a white against him? That would be tragic. |
May-07-13
 | | Check It Out: <Karjakin won> Okay, got it. |
May-07-13
 | | HeMateMe: Why did Topey lose all of his games? Fatigue from the last tournament, which he played so well? Not a good omen... |
May-07-13 | | badest: <HeMateMe> He probably doesn't mind having 5 blacks, and moreover he's a terrible blitz player. Let's wait for the classical games to determine his form. |
May-07-13 | | boz: Topalov has never been a blitz player but what happened to Aronian? |
May-07-13 | | schweigzwang: There still seems to be a discrepancy between the results above, and those listed at the Norway Chess site, which lists the Blitz Round 9 result in Wang v. Karjakin as win for Karjakin (table above: Game 14, shown 1/2-1/2). The final position does seem to be advantageous for black. |
May-07-13 | | voyager39: What I have never understood is how winning these inaugral blitz matches improve your draw and the final outcome? Or is it just a gimmick coz you eventually end up playing the same folks with both colours. Correct me if I am wrong. Bigger question is whether FIDE is counting all these funny openers into its Blitz ratings? And I'd also recommend that Chessgames creates a separate category for these casual encounters coz otherwise they drastically skew the "one on one" performance. I mean Aronian losing to Anand here counts for very little, but it goes to the scores here on CG and gives the impression as if Anand is catching up. |
May-07-13 | | waustad: <voyager39>They do itemize as best they can for the won loss, by giving rapid/blitz/exhibition games separately from classical. |
May-07-13 | | schweigzwang: Ok they seem to agree now, thanks! |

 | | keypusher: <hellopolgar: I am sure any of these 2700+ players will have no problem beating Jon Ludvig Hammer even with black. So an extra black against Jon Ludvig Hammer wouldn't really be all that bad.> Hammer is rated 2608. Someone rated 100 points above him would be expected to score ~64% overall, ignoring color. Someone rated 200 points above him would be expected to score ~75% overall, ignoring color. So, I don't agree that any 2700+ player <will have no problem beating [him] even with Black>. A lot of people seem to think that a 100 point rating advantage means you're expected to win almost every game. Not so. |
May-07-13 | | LucB: <gromguten: Kramnik> Am I the only one who thought that was funny, given who had asked the question?.. |
May-07-13 | | boz: No, I'm still laughing about it, Luc. |
May-07-13 | | Just Another Master: The Topa program is not created for blitz apparently. |
May-08-13 | | Rolfo: < Or is it just a gimmick coz you eventually end up playing the same folks with both colours. Correct me if I am wrong.> In a SRR (single round robin) you play each opponent only once |
May-08-13 | | anandrulez: Grand prix winner at 1 and only 2 draws and 7 losses I mean I really thought good players will be fast too but Topa is an exception he is more of the hard working guy who don't know to push pieces fast |
