Grand Prix Jerusalem (2019)

The FIDE Jerusalem Grand Prix took place in Jerusalem, Israel from December 11-22 2019. The 16-player knockout was the 4th and last leg of the 21-player Grand Prix series that determined two places in the World Championship Candidates (2020) tournament. Players competed in three of the four tournaments, which each had a 130,000 euro prize fund, with 24,000 euros for 1st place. There were also from 1 (quarterfinal loser) to 8 (winner) Grand Prix points available, plus an additional point for each match win without tiebreaks. The overall series prize fund was 280,000, with 50,000 for 1st place. Each round consisted of two games of classical chess, with a time control of 90 minutes/40 moves + 30 min to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1. If the match was tied, two 25+10 rapid games were played. If still tied, there were two 10+10 games, then if still tied, two 5+3. Finally (if necessary) a single Armageddon game was played, where White had 5 minutes to Black’s 4 (with a 2-second increment from move 61) but Black won the match with a draw. Chief arbiter: Almog Burstein.

Ian Nepomniachtchi beat Wei Yi in the final and collected 10 Grand Prix points.

AylerKupp: <Pedro Fernandez> I am blushing. But I'm certainly grateful that you consider me a good friend. I feel the same way about you. Perhaps we are like this album by one of my favorite artists, Dan Fogelberg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVt....
Jan-07-20  Sokrates: Dear <Pedro>, I think I understand your viewpoint and - it should go without saying that I respect your opinion about the ignore list. I just don't share it.

Is an ignore list the ideal solution to the problem of trollish posters? By no means. It is a poor substitute of a moderator, who would be able to enforce the posting guidelines, which CG has stated but for some reason leave to the discipline among posters - and self-discipline - to enforce.

In other words: CG allows anyone to violate the "posting guidelines" and for people like me, who regards trolls as pathetic pollutors of constructive discussions, they have given the tool to ignore them.

You and the honorable <AylerKupp> embrace trolls - probably due to your humanitarian mindset. I regard trolls and what they write a waste of space and attention, just like listening to a drunk man shouting at you around the next corner. I utterly dislike it and avoid as much as I can.

You don't need to emphasize the virtues of <AylerKupp> to me. I find and have always found AK to be an immensely valuable and interesting poster at this forum and, yes, a gentleman for sure. That, however, doesn't mean that I share his affection for the troll t-f, and I see no contradiction in this, none at all. Agreed?

Jan-07-20  Pedro Fernandez: Thanks a lot for your gift, I really appreciate my dear friend. However, when I click your link, it says me: "this video is not available". May do you check this?
Jan-07-20  Pedro Fernandez: What a good answers my great <Sokrates>. BTW, I forgot to say that you are so near to my heart like my great <AK>. The importance of a guy/girl is his/her cognitive thoughts, and the moral and principles given by your parents, your great parents, and your experience on the road. Yes, World is sometimes cruel and unfair, but you are not ``the guilty'', i.e. it is not your fault. Play the role of victim it is a bad idea. So that, if you do not share with me some ideas, thoughts, and a lot of more things, simply you are innate!
Jan-07-20  Clemens Scheitz: <.. pathetic polluters of constructive discussions..>

<..a waste of space and attention..>

..fitting descriptions of the troll in question.

And I'm quite surprised by <AK> taste for comedy and music ( Tuttifruty being "enjoyable" and Fogelberg's twins theme being a "favorite"..(?) ). Let my suggest Rowan Atkinson as a superior type of comedy and something like Bach's Partitas as a superior type of music..you will thank me later esteemed <AK>

Jan-07-20  Sokrates: Thanks, <Pedro> you are a man with a big heart - that shows!

Thanks, <Clemens Scheitz>. Rowan A. is, of course, a favourite. One of his best moments was, IMHO, in the iconic movie "Love Actually". Never has a gift been wrapped up so artistically! :-)

Jan-07-20  Clemens Scheitz: I imagine <Sokrates> that you have seen Mr. Bean's "Meeting the queen" and if not, stop what you are doing immediately and rush for YouTube...

moronovich: Rowan Atkinson is an extremely gifted actor IMHO.Very surprising after been brought up with "Mr Bean"

To see him as the inspector in "Maigret"
is really something special.

Highly recommended.

Jan-08-20  Sokrates: Oh yes, <Clemens>, I have seen it several times (assuming you mean the scene with the line-up of staff). Have also seen him as "Maigret", <moro>. Eric Idle is also one of my all-time favourite British comedians. Countless highlights with the Pythons.
Jan-08-20  Clemens Scheitz: Yes, indeed. And I also think that a select few of the " Fry and Laurie " sketches are superb. Some examples:

Kick ass
"Your name"
At the barber's
Beggar

Jan-08-20  Clemens Scheitz: ....definitively check them if you are not familiar with them.
Jan-08-20  Clemens Scheitz: ...and I'll be waiting for your opinion.
Jan-08-20  LameJokes: Tata steel begins 11th January <https://www.tatasteelchess.com/play...>.

Among candidates qualifiers, only Caruana and Giri are playing. This is probably their last outing before the candidates. But wait. They could be hiding the preparation.

Reigning world champion (Yes, from all three formats) Carlsen is also playing. Where does his streak stand? 100 games? 105 games? Anyway, he might surprise us by breaking Tiviakov’s all-time record here. Unless, of course, some GM sneaks up claiming even longer record than 110.

While speaking of surprises, there could be another in store. CG might surprise us by starting event page early. They could even surpass all expectations by showing live games.

Jan-08-20  Sokrates: Eh, not familiar with them, <Clemens>. I'll check them for sure. :-)

AylerKupp: <<Clemenz Scheitz> And I'm quite surprised by <AK> taste for comedy and music>

I don't think that I referred to <tuttifrutty> as "enjoyable" but instead "amusing". And of course they are not necessarily the same. There are many things I find enjoyable such as wine, food, music, and chess (I had to say the latter in order to keep this post somewhat on-topic) that are not necessarily amusing, although chess can be both. Likewise there are many things that I find amusing that unless you have a sick mind you won't find enjoyable. Although I do plead guilty about having a sick mind on occasion.

I also didn't say that Fogelberg's twins theme was a favorite (in fact I heard it for the first time yesterday) but overall Dan Fogelberg is. I'll never forget the time my wife and I heard him live at an outdoor theatre in a solo performance using 12-string acoustic guitar.

As far as Rowan Atkinson is concerned (or Bach, for that matter), I've "been" a fan of Atkinson for many years. Yes, I find him both enjoyable and amusing. And I consider both him and Bach far superior to <tuttifrutty> and Fogelberg. In fact, even the notion of comparing Atkinson and <tuttifrutty> in the same context is neither enjoyable nor amusing.

So I don't have to wait until later to thank you, I can thank you now.

Jan-08-20  Clemens Scheitz: With no intention of prolonging this silliness <AylerKupp>, you did write <But I actually enjoy <tuttifrutty>'s posts>. The devil is in the details... Thanks for the reply, and by all means check the Fry and Laurie bits I recommended to <Sokrates> in case you don't know them ( another one that comes to mind is " Interviewing Michael Jackson) and please keep the occasional outburst of your sick mind away from public places...

Stephen Fry is one of the funniest, smartest and most eloquent men walking on this earth. Just hearing his clear intellect makes one proud to be a human being.

For some pure comedy gold starring Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry and Rowan Atkinson; try the Blackadder series season 2-4.

Jan-08-20  Clemens Scheitz: Yes <Diademas>, Blackadder is great but in my opinion perhaps with a little less universal appeal than most other things that those actors/comedians have done. . and to me, Stephen Fry makes the English language sound so beautiful...

Diademas: As a true renaissance man, Stephen Fry has turned his attention to a vast variety of subjects. Including chess.

moronovich: <Which chess websites Stephen Fry may visit we do not know, but this general remark on page 95 may be noted: ‘... trollers on internet sites ... who specialize in posting barbarous, mean, abusive, look-at-me, listen-to-me anonymous comments on YouTube and BBC “Have Your Say” pages and other websites and blogs foolish enough to allow space for their poison. Such swine specialize in second-guessing the motives of those who are brave enough to commit to the risk of making fools of themselves in public and they are a blight on the face of the earth.’>

AylerKupp: <Clemens Scheitz> You're right. Apparently reading <tuttifruitty>'s post must have impaired my memory even more than I thought.
Jan-09-20  Sokrates: <Clemens> - forgot to add that Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie are high on my favourite list. Besides their series together, I have particularly enjoyed Fry's iconic quiz show and Laurie's Dr House. The latter raising this actor to stellar performances.

  moronovich: Hi <Sokrates> !

I suppose you have seen (the English title is something like the Night Watcher) "Natportien" (in Danish) with Hugh Laurie !? Instructed by Susanne Bier.It is a series, in 6 chapters.

Let me put it this way:You are very lucky if you have not !:) It is tremendous.

Jan-09-20  Count Wedgemore: I haven't seen the Night Watcher. After <moro>'s glowing review I will now, of course :=

Don't know if you guys are fans of P.G. Wodehouse, but Fry and Laurie both played in a UK television series based on Wodehouse's "Jeeves" stories: 'Jeeves and Wooster' in the 90s. It's brilliant.
