tamar: Zhao Xue seems impervious to pressure.
Already she has offered the b pawn on consecutive moves 19 Be3 Nd7 20 Rad1

It looks possible to take, but Tatiana must be wondering what is in store.

Zhao: "Do you feel lucky, punk?"

This isn't just winning a tournament.

This is "Stars and Stripes Forever" at Carnegie Hall.

Oct-20-11  firebyrd: <1-0 after 29 Qf3>

Which means that Tatiana is pegged back to -1, but she has white in the last game tomorrow, and can play for a win in order to salvage an even score. Hope springs eternal...

Oct-20-11  Ezzy: Round 10 - Smashes open Tatiana Kosintseva's kingside for a breathtaking and unprecedented performance rating of......wait for it.......... 2974!!!!

Wow!! Wow!! Wow!!

One round to go. Could it get any better? This carnage is becoming X-Rated.

Oct-20-11  Ezzy: <firebyrd: <1-0 after 29 Qf3>

I don't think the chess world will be worrying about or watching Tatiana tomorrow.

Oct-20-11  dumbgai: <Yafazuda: Judith Polgar could just crush all this ladies>

"could" doesn't mean jack when you don't compete.

Oct-20-11  kiseiju: I feel like she conceded the draw just to have a meaningful performance rating :)
Oct-20-11  paap: Mark my words,Zhao xue's gonna lose tomorrow to Ju.This will make sure the chinese gets no1 and no2.Just watch.

HeMateMe: geez, she won by four points. That's chess on steroids!
Oct-20-11  firebyrd: <Ezzy>

Imagine the headlines:

** KOSINTSEVA SISTERS PLAY A DECISIVE GAME!! **
... also: Zhao Xue wins with 10.5/11

Oct-20-11  Shams: A tournament for the ages for Zhao Xue! Remember Kovalevskaya, she will be the answer to a trivia question in a few years.
Oct-20-11  redwhitechess: is that really the gap between Zhao XUe and other players from the epicentrum of chess? I remember Hou Yifan also oftenly got the full points ahead her competitor.

and imagine, Karpov or Kasparov being in the bottom of men's GP, that's only happen in girls, see Kosteniuk and Zhu Chen now.... that's reflect the cyclic of girl's chess strenght, really?

Oct-20-11  dumbgai: We all know the Kosintseva sisters will play an arranged draw. I just hope they at least put some effort into making it look somewhat interesting. Probably won't happen though, they keep playing the exact same 13-move draw every time now...
Oct-20-11  notyetagm: 9.5/10(!!!!!)

holy @#$%!

Oct-20-11  notyetagm: <kiseiju: I feel like she conceded the draw just to have a meaningful performance rating :)>

Zhao Xue: "If I went 11/11, I would not have a measurable performance rating."

;-)

Oct-20-11  waustad: One thing I like about women's tournaments is that they play different openings than the top 10. for some reason the top 10 don't play the Sicilian anymore. For a few weeks everybody plays Petrov or now it is almost always Ruy Lopez against e4 and Slav against d4. Happily they are starting to play more straight QGD and Gruenfeld and the Scotch, but women don't seem as influenced by what is the latest wrinkle in the hot opening at the moment. It makes for more variety.
Oct-20-11  dumbgai: <waustad> It's not about the women playing different openings, it's about lower level players playing different openings. Men's IMs and lower-rated GMs play a much greater variety of openings than the super-GMs too.
Oct-21-11  Billy Vaughan: So, any bets on the last move of the Kosintseva game?

I'm betting on <14. ... Bh2+ 1/2-1/2>!

Oct-21-11  notyetagm: <CG.COM>

You're gonna have to update Zhao Xue 's biography tomorrow.

FIDE Women's Grand Prix Nalchik (2011)/Zhao Xue

tamar: <paap> was a prophet. Zhao Xue played weakly and will lose to Ju Wenjun locking up #1 and #2 for chinese players.

tamar: Bettors looking for a million to one payout on the Kosintseva sisters doing anything other than a short draw were disappointed, as this familiar gamescore appeared.

Oct-21-11  Shams: I can see the Klitchko brothers not fighting each other, but the Kosintseva sisters' relationship would be just fine the next day no matter who were to win a match between them. Isn't drawing all the time slightly unfair to the other players?
