May-30-05  aragorn69: Congrats and thx <Phoenix>. And great computer complications too...
May-30-05  pazzed paun: hey these may seem like very basic questions but i am not familar with this tournament-is a crosstable posted anywhere and is there a website for the HB foundation ?
May-30-05  riskdoc: <pazzed paun> Their website is www.hbfoundation.org. There is a link to the tournament site there.

I am glad that those attending the tournament enjoyed the great city of Minneapolis. I live in the suburb of Eagan, and it is a great place to live and raise a family. Also, there is a great chess culture developing here both at the club and scholastic levels.

May-31-05  samikd: <chessgames.com> My friend and Colorado Master Philipp Ponomarev (about 2300 USCF) played in the open section, and got shared the 2nd prize in the Under 2300 Section with a score of 5.5. Why isn't his name in the list of players ?
May-31-05  Tennyson: Hey Dac and Pheonix, I had a great time at Minneapolis. Result: +5 -2 =2 for a total of 6 points. Not bad for just about 2 hours of sleep a night. Couldn't get my body on midwest time, even after running around the Mississippi River several times. By the time the 8 and 9th rounds came I was so sick of playing slow positional games (every single person I played against as black played d4...not a single king pawn opening!?) that I decided to play e4 with good results. Here's some highlights. The first game exhibits an extremely humorous pawn center, with white pawns on e4, d4, e5 and d5; but owning the center prevented some open play so I had to be patient. The other two exhibit my latter round impatience and irritation with closed positions. See you at the next HB tournament!

May-31-05  Shams: <Tennyson> nice games. Mr. Redmond was clearly very tired at the end. do you have a loss to share? might be more useful.
May-31-05  Jamespawn: Shams you`re earlier post had me rollin`. Too funny.
May-31-05  Tennyson: <Shams> Thanks. Ah....the losses. Truly embarrassing games where I fell asleep at the wheel...sure I'll post them as well. And perhaps some funny stories and impressions of the tournament. I have to say it was one of the best and well organized tournaments I've been to. I'm hoping they have it again next year.

WannaBe: <Tennyson> Oh, sure, don't post the losses. :-) I don't blame you, but very very wonderful victories over higher ELO players. Great work. I am not even good enough to play in a tournament locally, much less something on the calibur of HB!
Jun-01-05  ellinor01: I am surprised to hear all those clever people who never name Rudolf Spielman.

Jun-04-05  Phoenix: For anyone interested, The Chess Drum (http://www.thechessdrum.net/) has audio interviews with GM Maurice Ashley, GM Pentala Harikrishna, GM Hikaru Nakamura, IM Amon Simutowe, and Jorge RenteriĆ”. The interviews are here (I think you have to have Windows Media Player): http://www.thechessdrum.net/newsbri...

The Chess Drum also promises an "extensive photo essay" soon.

Jun-04-05  northernsoul: <chessgames> I'd like to see the game Howell played against Epishin, which Howell won. Any chance it could be posted? Thanks
Jun-04-05  pazzed paun: <SHAMS> Do you think A.J. invested money in Enron and got burned? lol.
Jun-06-05  VishyFan: <riskdoc> can u post the link to the tournament page? i am unable to open the hbfoundation home page
Jun-06-05  Phoenix: The photo essay is now up: http://www.thechessdrum.net/tournam...
Jun-06-05  riskdoc: <VishyFan>The link is:

Jun-06-05  DP12: <Tennyson> you played quite well with the white pieces.
Jun-08-05  Phoenix: Maurice Ashley's blog keeps on rolling: http://www.generationchess.com/blog...
Jun-09-05  Tennyson: <DP12> Thank you. A compliment from an FM makes me feel deeply gratified. Do you have any games posted here on chessgames.com?
Jun-09-05  DP12: A few here and there. Actually too many with many losses. But I do not want to reveal my identity for the moment as .... I don't want people to see how badly I play chess! Maybe when I become a strong player and famous grandmaster.
Jun-10-05  Fulkrum: Born and raised in Minnesota. It's a very nice place to visit especially during May. I'm sad I missed the tournament. I'll try to make it next year (I'm in Philly now) and all you guys can come over to my folk's place and eat some Brats and drink some Leinie's. BTW see you at the World Open.
Jun-10-05  aw1988: <Fulkrum> Can I bring the booze? :)
Jun-10-05  AgentRgent: <aw1988: Can I bring the booze? :)> Who would say no?! ;-)
Jun-10-05  aw1988: The teatotlers?
