Gibraltar Masters (2003)

The first Gibraltar Masters tournament was a 59-player 10-round Swiss held in the Caleta Hotel, La Caleta (Catalan Bay), Gibraltar, 28 January to 6 February 2003. Main sponsor: Gibtelecom, the largest telecommunications provider in the British Overseas Territory of Gibraltar. Time control: 120 minutes for the whole game, with 30 seconds added per move from move 1. First to fifth prizes: GBP 4000, 2500, 1500, 1000, 600. There was also an Amateurs tournament, and some evening blitz events. Entry fee: Free for GMs, IMs, WGMs and WIMs. All others: GBP 40. Chief organizers: Stewart Reuben and David Sedgwick. Chief arbiter: David Welch? Rounds started at 3 pm.

Vasilios Kotronias and Nigel Short shared the victory with 7.5/10.
