Jun-26-07  percyblakeney: Mecking had a bad start but has gone +2 after round three.
Jun-26-07  gmgomes: My engine believes Vaganian is toast after 18.... Ne5

  Troller: Yep, Vaganian has resigned.

< gmgomes: Andersson usually trade queens before drawing, so white will play 12. b3, then white will move the N at move 13, Ulf will trade and draw will be agreed at move 14. > Nice prediction, except they are still playing at move 16. Will Ulf undertake a marathon game of 20 moves today?

Jun-26-07  VargPOD: Khalifman beat Vaganian in just 21 moves, I'm impressed. Also surprising is that Ribli and Andersson are still playing, it's already 16 moves.
Jun-26-07  percyblakeney: Ribli seems to be in a bloodthirsty mood today, Andersson's position looks uncomfortable.

Troller: Yes, this is sensational. Will the 28-game drawing streak between Andersson and Ribli be brought to an end?
Jun-26-07  percyblakeney: <the 28-game drawing streak between Andersson and Ribli>

Indeed a fascinating score between those two: +0 -0 =28 before today...

Troller: Draw agreed. Moving on to +0 -0 =29
Jun-26-07  VargPOD: Well, Ribli-Andersson looked promising for a little while, but still a draw.

I think it's a mistake from Ribli, Andersson was in an uncomfortable position and had very little time left (10 minutes). Guess they didn't want to break the record.

Jun-26-07  gmgomes: Draw agreed on move 24. They must be very tired today. Mecking is fighting for a win.
Jun-26-07  VargPOD: Mecking is two pawns ahead in a rook endgame, and Timman-Sokolov looks double-edged. More decisive games coming, perhaps.
Jun-26-07  gmgomes: Mecking must find 31. b6 now.
Jun-26-07  Shakalul: Chessgames,is actually "Turneul Regilor"(sorry if it was already posted something like this). There is no "Turnuel" word in romanian language :)
Jun-26-07  suenteus po 147: Well, one of my picks managed for winner at least managed to finish with a plus score (Beliavsky). Timman, however, finished dead last.

nasmichael: Just for contrast, the person in 10th place lost 2 games. A player who tied for 4th lost 2 games as well. Of the 10 games played by Timman, 8 of his opponents couldn't beat him. I am not a Timman fan or foe, but just looking at the numbers, I wanted to see it said that the management of the wins is important for the prize, but for proving mastery, managing the losses are equally important.
Jun-27-07  Marvol: Bazna Kings Tournament (2007)/Ulf Andersson - 10 games, all draws, longest 33 moves. Bazna Kings Tournament (2007)/Zoltan Ribli is no better as his only decent game was 53 moves with black against Timman who was pushing.

If you don't want to play, why bother showing up at all? No-one, I am sure, will mourn if these blokes never ever get an invitation to any OTB tournament again. Boy what a waste. Of time, of organising effort, of sponsor money... yuck. This is just as bad for chess sponsorship as FIDE's antics.

Jun-27-07  refutor: <marvol> ulf andersson has been doing that for *years*, decades almost. it is definitely not out of character for him...yet they keep on inviting him and inviting him
Jun-27-07  Paul123: This was a bad tournament! What happened? Sponsors bail on the prize money?

Jul-01-07  Illogic: Please tell me Ulf and Zoltan were not paid appearance fees to play in this tourney..
Jul-01-07  Dr.Lecter: This was to be expected, i think. Khalifman winning...

keypusher: Not only did Khalifman win, he managed the almost supernatural feat of six decisive games...of course, along with Sokolov, he was the "baby" of the tournament.
May-25-08  wolfmaster: Just 12 decisive games and 17 draws in 20 moves or lesss. Just depicable. These players disgust me. Ugh!
Jun-10-08  minasina: Bazna King's Tournament (2008)
Dec-12-13  HSOL: I think some games were missing from the chessgames database. Andersson and Ribli has according to 365chess a 32 game drawing streak after the game in this tournament. Although, before that, Ribli won 3 out of 6 encounters.

ceegee database has also 35 draws and 3 wins. Compared with 365chess they probably differ only in their timely assignment (of their relevant 1973 games)
