Mar-08-05  be3292: <JohnTal> "Sad life ending"? Not yet. Don't forget Colonel Saunders.
Mar-08-05  JohnTal: How did Colonel Saunders' life end?

Reading Shams' wise words, it does not look good for Bobby. If Uncle Sam busts BF for tax evasion and violating US sanctions; he is an easy sacrificial lamb that W can scapegoat to show how tough we are against unpopular scofflaws.

I doubt the Bobby has much blood left in him to be squeezed out. Shams, given your insights, I suspect the Japanese might just hand him over to Iceland as a payback for the Jenkins matter.

Mar-09-05  Shams: <JohnTal> <I suspect the Japanese might just hand him over to Iceland as a payback for the Jenkins matter.>

well, I repeat that my take on it is speculative-- but I would think Japan would want to offer the "nice" kind of payback, since the USA went easy on Jenkins. Bobby wants to go to Iceland (doesn`t he?) and the US government, I presume, does not want him to go. Japan tends to be very reciprocal in these kinds of matters. I think Bobby will be very lucky if he ends up in Reykjavic. (sp?)

Mar-21-05  Abaduba: <Zaius> I think the pun is actually "Sure win forced"
Mar-21-05  RookFile: If ...Nxe4, does Fischer try f4 and f5?
Apr-17-05  RookFile: Ok, I found some games at www.chessbase.com. They mostly go ...b4 9. Na4 Nxe4 10. Re1 and
white usually wins.
Apr-17-05  RookFile: So, Fischer was just a kid when
this game was played. I'm not
aware of anybody before him who
met a back rank attack by putting
his queen in the way.... eg Qf1.

Let's not forget what an amazing
move that was.

Jul-06-05  careles: If Fischer is in Iceland maybe this doesn't matter but someone should tell him that there is no law requiring americans to pay income taxes. Check out www.givemeliberty.org for court cases involving this.
Aug-11-05  lamjam: hi, i'm new at chess.. can someone tell me why black didn't move 31. ...Rf1? wouldn't that have mated?
Aug-11-05  Gregor Samsa Mendel: <lamjam>--No, because when white replies 32 Rf1, it uncovers an attack by the bishop, and black is in check. Sneaky!

Welcome to this site.

Aug-11-05  RookFile: Right, 31... Rf1 32. Rxf1 check (look
at the bishop on d5)

therefore the planned 32... Rxf1
is an illegal move.

But, it turns out that after 31... Rf1
32. Rxf1 check, if black plays 32... Kh8, white plays 33. Rxf8 mate himself.

Or, 31.... Rf1 32. Rxf1+ Rf7 33. Ra8+ Qd8 34. Rxd8 ++

Nov-27-05  PaulLovric: can someone please point me to the famous fischer game where his opponent has his queen traped beautifully, i saw it only thr other day but i do not know where? fischer plays white, i think, sorry for the lack of info.

tpstar: Here are two Queen trap games:
Fischer vs V Ciocaltea, 1962
Fischer vs NN, 1959
Nov-28-05  Professeur Y: <PaulLovric>, here is a game in which Fischer traps Reshevsky's queen: Fischer vs Reshevsky, 1958. It's amazing how long Reshevsky keeps playing after having lost his queen for two minor pieces.

By the way, you wrote an amusing anecdote about Capablanca on this page: Capablanca vs Lilienthal, 1936 a while ago. I was just wondering where you got that story from.

Nov-28-05  RookFile: This game also features a queen trap
theme.

Fischer vs S Schweber, 1970

Nov-28-05  PaulLovric: <RookFile> thay's the game, cheers mate.<Professeur Y> i'll ave a look for you: http://chessb.demonweb.co.uk/chessw...

found it

Nov-28-05  PaulLovric: and this is my favorite

http://chess.eusa.ed.ac.uk/Chess/Tr...

for those wholike the knights tour try this(nearly as addictive as chessgames.com) lol

http://www.troyis.com/troyis.php

Nov-29-05  Professeur Y: Thanks <PaulLovric>; that knight's tour game is dangerously addictive indeed. Many brain cells to waste there. And thanks for those amusing chess stories.
Nov-29-05  PaulLovric: <Professeur Y> can you get past level nine yet?
Nov-29-05  Professeur Y: <PaulLovric> I made it to level 11 a few times, and through 11 once, but then I flunked 12 badly. Did you notice that world record holders make it to 20-something? That's insane.
Nov-29-05  Professeur Y: My guess is this knight's tour game is not a bad practice for one aspect of tactical vision in actual chess, but maybe I'm just making excuses. Then again chess is only a slightly more sophisticated way to waste time.
Nov-29-05  PaulLovric: <Professeur Y> i have only made it to level 9 so far. too bust at school.<My guess is this knight's tour game is not a bad practice for one aspect of tactical vision in actual chess, but maybe I'm just making excuses. Then again chess is only a slightly more sophisticated way to waste time.> and an excuse to get out of the house when the "chess widow" starts nagging
Nov-29-05  sitzkrieg: I never see you do the "First!" thing no more. Miss it.

Grtz

Nov-29-05  PaulLovric: <sitzkrieg> i guess i am a bit paranoid about doing it nowdays, so many seem to get so angry, by so few words. and chessgames.com seems to put gotd later these days, i only have time to be here during lunch at school
Jan-28-06  joelsontang: 31.Qf1!!! has the making of a genius!
