Championships

Nakauchi came second in the 2007 Queensland Championship with 5/7 behind Stephen John Solomon. He contested the 2007 World U12 championship and placed =10th with 7.5/11. He also contested the 2008 World U14 championship scoring 5/11, came 2nd in the 2008 Australian Junior Championship, 4th in the 2009 Australian Junior Championship, 3rd in the Australian Young Masters in 2009, and 4th in the same event in 2010. In June 2011, he came second in the Queensland Junior with 6.5/8. In January 2013, he won the Bond University Australian Junior (U/18 Open).

Classical tournaments

He won the 2008 and 2010 Ruth Coxhill Memorial Tournaments on the Gold Coast with 7/9 and 8.5/9 respectively, came 3rd in the 2010 Surfers Paradise Open and scored 6/10 in the 2011 Australian Open. In November 2011, he came clear second with 7/9 at the Ruth Coxhill Memorial behind IM Aleksandar H Wohl. In April 2012, he narrowly missed an IM norm when he scored 5.5/9 at the Sydney International Open, but nonetheless gained 40 Elo rating points for his pains. He came =2nd at the 2012 Gold Coast Open with 5/6.

  GrahamClayton: Gene has Asperger's Syndrome. He started to display signs of exceptional abilities when he was two years old (he could read the whole Japanese alphabet). When he was eight his brother took him to the Gardiner Chess Centre on the Gold Coast, where his chess career started.
