At the World Junior Chess Champioships 2012 in Athens, Greece, Shimanov collected 8.5/13 to claim the 12th place.

GM Alexander Ipatov (10/13) won the gold medal, GM Richard Rapport (10/13) the silver and GM Ding Liren (9.5) the bronze medal.

Aug-15-13  Gazman5: Nice to see a 1.d4 player break out the Kings Gambit against Gata Kamsky when he needs a win. From the looks of it Gata was completely taken by surprise and he's gained a clear opening advantage, it's a question of whether he has the technique to make anything of it against black's queenside pawn weaknesses and doubled f pawns, as well as his own passed d pawn which looks ready to mobilise.
May-08-14  ivansoto: Happy 22nd birthday GM ALEKSANDR SHIMANOV!
