GrahamClayton: Mary Palmer married Henry Houlding, a bank clerk in 1885, and the settled at Narrandera, 84kms away from Wagga Wagga. She represented the NSW Country team against Sydney teams in telegraph matches between 1893 to 1897.

Houlding competed in 21 British Ladies Championships between 1905 and 1932, with the best results of 1st (1910, 1911 and 1914), a playoff loss to Frances Herring (1907) and 3rd places in 1906 and 1912. Her performance of 4th at Tenby in 1928 was meritorous considering she was 78 years old at the time.
