Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-13-15  samsloan: Leroy Jackson was the first or one of the first Black American chess masters. He won the Eastern Open against a strong field while still 17. However, not long thereafter he dropped out of chess and never played again. According to Jerome Bibuld he became a Muslim and changed his name to Muhammad. This must be why we cannot find him. Perhaps he can be located and brought back into chess.

OhioChessFan: A shame someone who could beat Browne disappeared from the game.

Probably the same way that all those named Jesus can tell each other apart, they look at each others' faces.

HeMateMe: I think Jesus is going out as a Latino name. I don't hear it as much on the street as I used to.
Feb-14-15  samsloan: As I recall he was from St. Louis. Perhaps he is still there. Perhaps some rich guy can be found in St. Louis who will give him some money and bring him back into chess. I am sure Goichberg will remember him.

Phony Benoni: As Leroy Muhammad he made a brief comeback in the late 1970s, but stopped tournament play thereafter. He passed away October, 2013 in Gary, Indiana.

I used to know a Greek guy named Zeus. I shouted to him, "Hey, Zeus" and a load of Mexicans looked round.

HeMateMe: I used to live in Queens, and there was this Laundromat I used owned by Greeks. One of the owners, three brothers, was named Jupiter. I always thought that was a pretty cool name.
Oct-08-19  ndg2: Shouldn't a greek not be named Zeus instead of Jupiter?
