Kibitzer's Corner
Sep-14-05  domradave: I took chess lessons from Leslie at the Marshall Chess Club when he was the manager. Leslie even got me into college at NYU with an endorsement letter that included:

"He is an excellent chess player exhibiting a great deal of imagination, originality and an amiable sense of humor. He is a gentleman of the highest ethical standard and is well liked by all."

Not of this is true, but I did get accepted!!!

perfidious: This could well have described Les himself- I had the pleasure of meeting him in the late 1980s.
Sep-15-05  domradave: I am glad to hear that you met Leslie.
He is missed!

perfidious: <GrahamClayton> Thanks for posting this; while Les tutored one of my close friends in New York some years ago and was a guest in his wedding in 1989, I didn't know him at all well. Those times we met, he struck me as a decent man, though, who enjoyed chess. Pity he shared the fate of other players, and it was a fine act on Walter Shipman's part to look after his affairs.
