fredthebear: Another horrific chop job of an enduring chess legend, a world champion no less. Don't you just luv her biography page?? 82 games??
Apr-29-25  stone free or die: I think you're confused <ftb>, since this isn't the bio page for WWC, but for a younger (dob 1991) Russian player with the same name.

<Perf>'s post makes that clear via the link.

I don't like the disambiguation though, and would prefer adding the dob to the name. It has the advantage of adding info vs. the arbitrary enumeration.

So...

<Gaprindashvili, Nona (1991)> would be my preference.

It would be nice also to have a word or two about the younger player.

Apr-29-25  stone free or die: This player (dob 1991) seems to have largely stopped playing classic chess in ~2011

Apr-29-25  stone free or die: Gheesh, this is asking for trouble.

<Nona Gaprindashvili> should be reserved exclusively for the WWCC by precedence.

Seems <CG> is the one confused now, and perhaps that's what prompted <ftb>'s comment (I was working off memory, thinking Nona1 the name, from yesterday!).

A Servant When He Reigneth
by Rudyard Kipling (30 December 1865 – 18 January 1936)

Three things make earth unquiet
And four she cannot brook
The godly Agur counted them
And put them in a book --
Those Four Tremendous Curses
With which mankind is cursed;
But a Servant when He Reigneth
Old Agur entered first.
An Handmaid that is Mistress
We need not call upon.
A Fool when he is full of Meat
Will fall asleep anon.
An Odious Woman Married
May bear a babe and mend;
But a Servant when He Reigneth
Is Confusion to the end.

His feet are swift to tumult,
His hands are slow to toil,
His ears are deaf to reason,
His lips are loud in broil.
He knows no use for power
Except to show his might.
He gives no heed to judgment
Unless it prove him right.

Because he served a master
Before his Kingship came,
And hid in all disaster
Behind his master's name,
So, when his Folly opens
The unnecessary hells,
A Servant when He Reigneth
Throws the blame on some one else.

His vows are lightly spoken,
His faith is hard to bind,
His trust is easy boken,
He fears his fellow-kind.
The nearest mob will move him
To break the pledge he gave --
Oh, a Servant when he Reigneth
Is more than ever slave!

The cut worm forgives the plow.

Dip him in the river who loves water.

A fool sees not the same tree that a wise man sees.

He whose face gives no light, shall never become a star.

Eternity is in love with the productions of time.

The busy bee has no time for sorrow.

The hours of folly are measur'd by the clock, but of wisdom: no clock can measure.
