Jan-09-17  ColeTrane: Mardi gras = fat tue
Oct-26-18  virginmind: 5/7 points at the ongoing very strong Isle of Man open, after drawing MVL and Karjakin.
Oct-26-18  Dionysius1: I'm not getting at people who use the American style of "drawing" "drew" etc without the preposition "against", but it is causing me harmless amusement.

To me "drawing MVL and Karjakin" in the context of a swiss tournament means getting their name as opponents in particular rounds. Nearly every time on this thread it's completely unclear whether this is what people mean, or "drawing against MVL and Karjakin" as in scoring half a point against each.

The joys of the English Language and variants!

Oct-26-18  virginmind: I can agree with that. Long live the English language and its never ending black hole feeling. Once you're in, you can't get out. The language of the poets and of the Bible. One never gets bored with it.
Feb-28-22  Albertan: He won the open section of the 2022 Romanian Chess Championship:
