International Master Ilia Maksovich Botvinnik was born in Minsk, Belarus and shared 2nd place at the 1986 Belarus Chess Championship behind Boris Gelfand. He emigrated to Israel in the 1990's and also works as a chess coach. He is the father of Mikhail A Botvinnik.

Dec-17-05  LancelotduLac: No relation to the great Mikhail, unfortunately. The Belarussian IM Ilia Botvinnik is a second of Ilia Smirin and a superb coach of many young players in Israel.
