Oct-18-10  Benzol: This might be a Mikhail Botvinnik but it certainly isn't "THE" Mikhail Botvinnik.
Oct-14-12  Sem: Son of?
Oct-18-12  amaurobius: <Sem> According to Wiki, world champion Botvinnik had one daughter
Oct-18-12  waustad: He's from Israel and was born in 1983. Here is his FIDE card info: http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?...

alexmagnus: Is it that Mikhail Botvinnik who in 1998 played a game against Tigran Petrosian (Tigran L Petrosian?) in some kids' event? That "duel of namesakes of dead champions" is often mentioned on websites about chess curiosities.

alexmagnus: Here is that game: http://www.edochess.ca/batgirl/Botv...

Though it goes slightly against my identifications of the namesakes - on the site Botvinnik was born in 1984 and Petrosian in 1983, but the two I identified are other way around. But maybe the site mixed it up.

Oct-18-12  Eyal: Yeah, that's the one who played in that game - he was born in 1983 (it's the same one as Mikhail A Botvinnik), and Petrosian's namesake in 1984.

  HeMateMe: Mickey the Lesser.
Oct-19-12  Eyal: Btw, as far as I know he doesn't really have a middle name that begins with an "A". I asked cg.com about it once, and they told me it was just added arbitrarily to distinguish him from the famous player (chessgames.com chessforum).
Oct-19-12  Karpova: <Eyal> is this his father: Ilia Botvinnik?
Oct-19-12  Eyal: <Karpova> I did a quick check in some Israeli chess sites - and yes, they're father and son. (Actually playing for the same team in the Israeli league, one report mentioning what the "father and son" did in a certain match...) The family is originally from Belarus (Ilya was born in Minsk, like Gelfand, and shared 2nd place behind him in the 1986 Belarus championship), and emigrated to Israel in the 90s. The father has some reputation as a coach - one of those he's coaching at the moment is Avital Boruchovsky, who was quite successful in the recent European Championship.
Dec-08-20  cameosis: <eyal> thanks for all the info -- shouldn't it be mikhail ->ilyevich<- botvinnik then, instead of the random initial a?

do you know the name of boruchovsky's father by chance? i'm adding all the players who trace their origin back to the fsu including the patronymics, so any help is appreciated.

It must have a real big payday or late night perks if The Duck of Nordmarka is playing the Demon of Niemann.

Sep-22-24  cameosis: his name in hebrew and belarusan
