Oct-23-06  Marvol: <Karpova: Sorry, it's just that your comment on Judit being easy prey for Topalov was quite mean. I'm a fan of Judit, you know. Not like <Bufon>+Topalov, but still...>

Ah I see. My apologies. Shall we both have one tonight to drink to Judit's victory then? Cheers! (see you at the World v Nickel Game Pub?)

Oct-23-06  cotdt: <Karpova>topalov did beat judit 2-0 in their post-1999 games, so i think marvol was not misguided in saying that. sorta like how kramnik is 20-0 against judit and if they were to play, most would say kramnik would win.
Oct-23-06  Hesam7: posted by <greg koster> in chessninja:

<Absurd thoughts:

Topalov is evidently bound tightly to Danailov; psychologically and by contract. If there's anything to the San Luis rumors then they're bound together by guilty knowledge as well.

At some point Topalov may find Danailov less a help than a burden. But how to break away?

Well, if Topalov crashed, Danailov would drop him. Maybe in the back of Topalov's mind there's a freedom-loving inner voice whispering, "lose, lose, lose." >

Oct-23-06  Laskerschueler: As for 20.Nf5, it´s just that 20...exf5 21.Bxe5 Bxe5 22.Qxf5 attacks the rook (22...Rh8 23.Qxf7 mate)
Oct-23-06  Laskerschueler: Someone in Susan´s blog said that Judit would´ve found 20.Nf5 if her opponent had been a 2500 player. You just don´t expect, that a 2800 player gives you a chance like this.
Oct-23-06  Karpova: <cotdt: topalov did beat judit 2-0 in their post-1999 games, so i think marvol was not misguided in saying that.> Topalov vs Judit Polgar, 2005

and for the score - Karpov's score against Spassky is not bad. kasparov's one against Shirov, too. Or Judit's against Short.

<Marvol>
Cheers!
I will look at the decision but not following the voting right now. Voted for Bb6 and the winner will be a surprise to me!

Oct-23-06  Caloy: <Laskerschueler:> As for 20.Nf5, it´s just that 20...exf5 21.Bxe5 Bxe5 22.Qxf5 attacks the rook (22...Rh8 23.Qxf7 mate)

aah right, missed that..Thanks a lot!

Oct-23-06  PeerGynt: I believe Topalov'c Siicilian is highly overrated. He lost several games in it recently and in many other games his position looked suspicious. I think Topa has no stable opening against E4. He does not want to play Petrov, but his Berlin is bad and his Sicilian gives incidental slips...
Oct-23-06  chaital2005: Essent should have called young players like Carlesen, Harikrishna or Radjabov instead of Sokolov
Oct-23-06  mikejaqua: Is it possible that Topa's not getting enough potty breaks at Essent?

chancho: yesterday Susan Polgar said: <Topalov needs to have a new repertoire. No matter how good any player is, if he / she keeps playing the similar things over and over again, others will find a way to beat it.>
Oct-23-06  Mameluk: <younger players> Sorry, but this tournament has some regulations like one woman, one junior WC, one Dutch. But I agree that Tiviakov and Van Wely are younger and right now stronger than Sokolov.
Oct-23-06  radu stancu: Can anyone tell me what the time controls are? On the official site I found only the open & amateur tournaments' time controls.
Oct-23-06  jennthebabe: <She has a +3 on Mamedyarov, but their last game was three years ago. He's improved alot since then.> I think Judit will win tomorrow. I hope so too!
Oct-23-06  who: Well the good news is that tomorrow we are assured to see at least one other player get their name on the scoreboard. I feel like Sokolov-Topallov is as if the Cubs played the Red Sox in 2003. You wonder how both players can lose.
Oct-23-06  percyblakeney: If all the remaining games in Essent are drawn the top 6 on the rating list could look something like this:

1. Anand 2779
2. Topalov 2778
3. Kramnik 2766
4. Morozevich 2758
5. Ivanchuk 2750 (?)
6. Mamedyarov 2746

Oct-23-06  Tactical: <radu stancu>I believe it is 40/2 then 1 hour for the game
Oct-23-06  Jafar219: <jennthebabe> Polgar won Mamedyarov 2 times not 3.
Oct-23-06  THE pawn: Ouch...I just saw sokolov and topalov's tournament performance. They are both something like 1950. MY rating.
Oct-23-06  Thrajin: A little off topic...

I've been thinking of Topalov, Kramnik, all these top players, and why they all seem not-so-significant when compared to Kasparov. I think the one thing most players today lack is Kasparov's authoritative attitude. For instance, I haven't seen Kramnik or Topalov conduct a post-game analysis or a demonstration with the authority/certainty or the gusto of Kasparov, and I really think that's what separates him as a legend.

Oct-23-06  borisfan: <percyblakeney> that is as close as it can get!
Oct-23-06  doremi: wow <pb> if that makes the January rating list, it would be a first for Anand ever!
Oct-23-06  Dionyseus: <Thrajin> <I've been thinking of Topalov, Kramnik, all these top players, and why they all seem not-so-significant when compared to Kasparov. >

Look, it's very simple to explain, Kasparov was the greatest human chess player ever. Period.

Oct-23-06  ahmadov: Judit has lots of fans here. It looks like it will be tense between us (Mamedyarov's fans) and them tomorrow.
