Dec-07-06 | | TIMER: <Stevens> In boxing Britain recently had one of the greatest champions ever- Lennox Lewis- but they don't accept him fully due to him being originally from Canada. |
Dec-07-06 | | code13: Lennox Lewis wasn't even originally from Canada. He was born in London and left there to move to Canada when he was 12. Then he took up boxing to defend himself because he was being bullied for being the English kid. To be fair, it is probably true to say that a lot of people did accept him. He was voted BBC sports personality of the year once, after all. But there are certainly gripers who are always seeking to find ways to exclude people. |
Dec-07-06 | | the bad bishop: <TIMER> England should claim him without reservation. If they are relying on their cricket team to bring them fortune they will be waiting a LOOOONNNGGGG time- maybe another 16 years.
Greetings from Brisbane, Oz ;) |

Dec-07-06 | | Dres1: I hear she was criticizing Kournikova, and saying that she can "actually play chess". i just looked at her recent games, and i beg to differ. What a clown. |
Dec-07-06 | | slomarko: clowns dont look that good usualy |
Dec-07-06 | | Dres1: Looking good does not exclude you from being ridiculous |
Dec-07-06 | | slomarko: i dont know. she's probably better at chess than you! |
Dec-07-06 | | Dres1: I dont think she is better than I. I think you are just defending her because you have a little crush on her or something... i look at her games, and see below master level chess. |
Dec-07-06 | | slomarko: she played some fine games and she isnt below master level! |
Dec-07-06 | | slomarko: check how she beats a 2320 player with black I Chelushkina vs A Caoili, 2006 |
Dec-07-06 | | Dres1: that game is pretty alright.. the guy didnt play very well though. Anyway, my point is that she is not very strong at chess, and certainly no stronger at it than Kournikova is at tennis. |
Dec-07-06 | | slomarko: maybe she isnt stronger than Kournikova but she isnt weaker either. and she was right to make that comment about Kournikova it is well known she wasnt very interested in tennis but more in her image. |
Dec-07-06 | | Dres1: they should oil wrestle for it. |
Dec-07-06 | | slomarko: she's a chessplayer. |
Dec-07-06 | | Dres1: They should oil wrestle. |
Dec-07-06 | | TIMER: <slomarko> Well, based on ranking achieved in relative fields (how else to compare?), she has not been as strong in woman's chess as Kournikova has in woman's tennis. By this comparison, I would put Judit Polgar far above any woman tennis player, as she is a different league to the other women. But then you could argue women's chess has not got close to its potential yet, and they should really be more compared with the men's levels in chess, which would make FIDE 2300 relatively nothing, let alone a top player. |
Dec-07-06 | | slomarko: thats your opinion |
Dec-07-06 | | slomarko: <TIMER> ok then what are Kournikova's great achivements in tennis? |
Dec-07-06 | | babakova: <They should oil wrestle.> Don't be sexist. They should make babies. |
Dec-07-06 | | TIMER: <slomarko> Ranking is not my opinion. You have to give an argument against going by ranking achieved. (Plato said Kournikova reached top 8 in women's tennis) |
Dec-07-06 | | slomarko: <TIMER> its much easier to achive that in tennis than in chess. |
Dec-07-06 | | sitzkrieg: DRES1 has a point. |
Dec-07-06 | | TIMER: <slomarko> If that is the case, it seems very strange with the much greater monetary incentives in tennis. In chess do you think women should be in a lower league than men, by the way? Look at Judit Polgar to see they could be much stronger. |
Dec-07-06 | | slomarko: <TIMER> in tennis every man can beat a woman 6:0 6:0 in chess it is much more equal |
Dec-07-06 | | chessmoron: Kournikova might have the looks but she sucks at tennis. Maria Sharapova has two major titles in her belt (Wimbeldon and US Open) and Kournikova=0. |
