Jun-07-11  pinoymaster77: GM Dar w/ the white pieces, penultimate round!

Jun-07-11  rainbowxpress: Dejavu?
Jun-07-11  pinoymaster77: Puede pa, still on top with tiebreak points. If Li is held to draw by Arutinian, then compute mabuti, a draw with GM Yang might be enough...

http://www.chess-results.com/tnr508...

Jun-07-11  wordfunph: maybe just a draw will win the title, ayak pa yan Bulldozer!
Jun-07-11  pinoymaster77: NCFP article after 8 rds, before the rd9 loss to GM Li...

http://www.ncfphilippines.org/ncfp/...

Tama nga, GM Dar keeping Pinoy hopes alive, just get hold of nerves, and HOLD THE LINE!

2nd top Pinoy scorer is GM JP and all the best vs untitled Lu Shanglei...

Jun-07-11  geniokov: Now pa lang eh happy na ako kay GM Laylo.I think it´s Pichay Cup from where he get that full pledged GM norm...In short, whatever the result is,his performance are above average.
Jun-07-11  joeyj: Hope GM Laylo ... won't falter this time just like in ZONE 3.3 OPEN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP when he lost his last 2 rounds. He was leading then up to the 7th round ... when he lost 2 successive games down the wire !

Then again he lost today in the 9th round this time @ the Pichay's Cup ... hope he recovers in round 10 (last round) !!!

see here:

also GM Laylo's result @ ZONE 3.3 OPEN CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP ( May 24-30, 2011) http://chess-results.com/tnr50725.a...

Jun-08-11  pinoymaster77: Just got text advice from Kots Carag, GM Darwin is the Champion with 7.5pts followed by GMs Wen Yang and Lu Shilong. At long last a Pinoy champion in the Pichay Cup!

If Im not mistaken the last feat was GM Torre in the GMA Cup then?

With 7pts are Arutinian, Ma Qun, Xu Jun, JP, Megaranto, Xiu Deshun. Probably from this group ang norm earners...

Jun-08-11  pulsar: Congrats, GM Darwin Laylo! It's been a while since a Pinoy won one of our locally-hosted international tourneys. Again, congratulations!
Jun-08-11  pinoymaster77: Ka update lang sa chess-results :

Jun-08-11  kidsgambit2: Congrats Darwin. At last a Pinoy champion in our home turf. As <pulsar> said, it's been a while.
Jun-08-11  wordfunph: congratulations GM Laylo!

mabuhay si Bulldozer!

Jun-08-11  joeyj: Congratulations GM Laylo !!!
Jun-08-11  pinoymaster77: Here's the NCFP article by Ed Andaya for the blow-by-blow :

http://www.ncfphilippines.org/ncfp/...

Jun-08-11  pulsar: "Laylo’s smashing triumph enabled him to become only the second Filipino player to win a major international chess championship in Subic after GM Jayson Gonzales achieved the feat in 2008."

Perhaps Sir Ed is mistaken here. I think GM Torre also topped one of these tourneys.

Jun-08-11  dunkenchess: Again, our congratulations!!!
Jun-08-11  RuyLupit: Ayos, GM Laylo led from start to finish. Fantastic performance!
Jun-08-11  RuyLupit: Big payday for GM Laylo, I think the top 3 will share $15,000 prize money?
Jun-08-11  pinoymaster77: RuyLupit,
Per Ed's article in NCFP, tig $4333 yung tatlo na 7.5 pts.

pulsar,
Could be matter of semantics, 2nd winner in Subic. GM Torre's win in GMA Cup was (I think) in Duty Free. As fate would have it, GM Jayson is the TD of this Subic tourney...

Jun-08-11  RuyLupit: OK TY PM77. GM Laylo has won two international tournaments this year, Aeroflot B February 2011 and Pichay Cup June 2011.
Jun-08-11  pinoymaster77: RuyLupit,

Ok, na overcome niya jitters sa last 2 rounds, ganun na raw siya nung Jrs pa...

Hope he works on his consistency, and ganyan ang form pagdating ng SEA Games, if included in the team

Jun-08-11  RuyLupit: Agree PM77, consistency is the key word. Dapat parang si Johnny Abarrientos ng Alaska nuon, bawat laro "A" game ang dala niya. GM Laylo is very talented and I hope he can spend more time with GM Wes to study chess.
Jun-09-11  pinoymaster77: Sa current form ni GM Dar, won't be surprised if he's sent to Campo Cup in Myanmar in early July, then am pretty sure laro siya sa BOGM...
Jun-09-11  joeyj: GM Laylo featured @ http://www.chessdom.com/ with pic!!!

2nd Chairman Prospero Pichay Jr. Cup
Grandmasters Darwin Laylo, Wen Yang and Li Shilong shared the fist place

The 2nd Chairman Prospero Pichay Jr. Cup International Chess Championship was held on 2-8th June 2011 in Subic Freeport, Philippines. 86 players from seven federations, among them 13 Grandmasters, competed in the 10-round tournament. A total of $30,000 in cash prizes was allocated for this event.

Grandmasters Darwin Laylo of Philippines, Wen Yang and Li Shilong (both China) shared the fist place with 7.5 points each. Laylo was declared champion on superior tiebreak score accumulated through constant occupation of the top table.

After round seven Laylo had a full point advantage ahead of the opposition, but the defeat against Shilong complicated matters on the top of the scoreboard. On the final day the leaders settled for draws to maintain the high positions.
