keypusher: <bartonlaos> I doubt she's trying to hide anything. Maybe she just thinks you're an irritating little troll.
Jul-31-06  Mendrys: I can't really judge Sam Sloan as I have never known him. This being the case I have to take stories about his "less than chaste interest in pre-teen girls" with a grain of salt. However, I have viewed his website and while I did not see where he admits to a penchant for sex with underage girls I felt dirty nonetheless. Is it just me or are others made uneasy about the advertisement for the book "How to Talk Dirty in Japanese" as well? The model is probably of age but she IS supposed to appear to be an underage schoolgirl. Kinda reminds me of the "Barely Legal" crap I see in my email from time to time. Who exactly are they marketing this to? People who fantasize about sex with underage girls, that's who. Again, I cannot really say what kind of a person he is but I would certainly have reservations about him being involved in any activity involving children. I do find GM Polgar's allegations that he propositioned her while he was guesting with her family to be credible.
Jul-31-06  bartonlaos: <keypusher> I first posted the photographs in protest. These two have known each other for years, even though Susan implies a few weeks, and also wrote in her blog that his visit was not significant, just a visit (as many others had done).

It was not, just a visit. Sam Sloan helped her with a serious FIDE dispute. But he then asked for an inappropriate reward afterward. She said NO, and he stopped.

What emerges from this allegation is the fact that he was successful with the FIDE dispute, which is evidence that he would serve USCF well.

Also <keypusher> I think it is ethically wrong to look into someone's bedroom and decide that they would not make a good Chess official based on what you find.

If Justice Clarence Thomas can serve on the Supreme Court, and Bill Clinton could serve as President of the United States of America, then surely Sam Sloan should be allowed to serve the USCF.

James Demery: Has anyone heard how Sam Sloan is doing now that he is finally part of the USCF?
Oct-28-06  Caissanist: You can find out all about Sam Sloan's latest shenanigans on http://groups.google.com/group/rec..... He seems to be doing a lot of yelling and screaming (surprise, surprise).
Jul-15-07  I3illieJoe: Go for it Sam !! I'm gonna vote for you!!

James Demery: It looks like Sam didn`t get enough votes to stay in office. I understand there was some controversy between Susan Polgar and Sam Sloan.
Jul-27-07  nikolajewitsch: <James Demery> "some controversy" is a hot candidate for understatement of the year.....

  WannaBe: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Sl...

I know of nothing between Polgar and Sloan, even though I read every issue of Chess Life cover to cover for the last 2+ years...

Jul-28-07  savagerules: A picture is worth a thousand words. (look at Sam's photo above)
Jul-28-07  nikolajewitsch: <James Demery> I do not know the entire story either, especially not how it all started, but for a first impression you could look at the link above, where Polgar commented on his election to the USCF board last year....or just search his name on her blog and you will find some examples of the hostility between the two.
Oct-10-07  technical draw: That's not a picture of Sloan, that's a picture of the late Carmine Tattaglia of the Genovese family.
Oct-10-07  Petrosianic: <...even though I read every issue of Chess Life cover to cover for the last 2+ years...>

You're sick!

Oct-10-07  technical draw: <Petrosianic> Of course he is! That's why he's my patient. TD, MD, Licensed Plumber.

JointheArmy: On Sam Sloan's wikipedia page something mysterious is posted. It says <Sloan is a longtime and frequent cross-poster to Usenet groups.> Then gives two references for this. The problem with this is the first reference is a link to his USCF card which says nothing. The second is to here which I didn't even think you could do.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Sl...

If we assume this to be true - ignoring the false references - why would Sam Sloan wait 18 months to report a fake Sam Sloan was posting on USENET or was this just put in on wiki because they thought the fake Sam Sloan was the real Sam Sloan?

Oct-12-07  Caissanist: Somebody, or more likely several somebodies, has been impersonating Sam (and a number of other posters) on the Usenet chess groups for at least eight years. He has been complaining about it pretty much the whole time, but apparently didn't have any evidence of who was doing it until now.

FSR: With a face like that, why hasn't Sloan ever been People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive"?
Oct-12-07  whiskeyrebel: man, that pic makes him look like John Dillingers corpse. When he hit 60 he must've been doing 90. "Frankensloan"..whew..
Oct-12-07  midknightblue: Sam was not elected as a protest vote. He has run several years in a row. Each year he wrote a long winded paranoid incoherent essay about why he should be elected, and he finished at the bottom of the barrel. For the last election, he wrote an eloquent and concise essay. Finally must have discovered the value of having an editor. Anyway, only the hardcore know about his freaky website ramblings. He was elected because of a well written essay. It will be a great challenge for the remainder of the Board to make progress with him obstructing things. The uscf web page is better than ever, so at least they are doing something right.
Oct-12-07  Aurora: I didn't know that his picture was inspiring original source for Jim Henson to create the Muppet Show.
Oct-12-07  GeauxCool: <JointheArmy> I found this in the chess.politics thread:

<Sam Sloan- This has nothing to do with computer chess. Please do not crosspost your replies to rec.games.chess.computer. As for crossposting to alt.politics.bush, Sam Sloan should be hung by his heels and fed a powerful laxative. With his head in a bucket. >
