Aug-10-04  refutor: <i wouldn't be surprised if she one day succeeds polgar at the top>

i would...at the same age judith was winning *mens* tournaments. the gap between judith polgar and the rest of the women is quite staggering...polgar is rated over 2700 and there are no other women in the world at 2600 http://www.fide.com/ratings/top.pht... and believe it or not, going from 2600-2700 is a little tougher than going from 1600-1700 :)

Aug-10-04  acirce: Right, Kosintseva isn't even GM at 18, while Polgar became that at 15 when it was harder. There are countless numbers of male players in or below her age and above her rating, surely most of those will never be close to reaching Polgar's heights.
Aug-10-04  percyblakeney: I don’t think any woman will reach the same heights as Polgar for a very long time! What I believe is that Kosintseva will succeed Polgar at the top among the women. In Kazan she beat for example Kosteniuk, who is ranked 4th at the moment, and the top players on the list are 10-15 years older than Kosintseva.
Aug-10-04  acirce: Yeah ok, misread.
Aug-10-04  percyblakeney: I expressed myself dimly, probably because of writing to much drivel recently. :-)
Sep-02-04  Knight13: Why she's so young? How old is she?
Sep-13-04  Lenny49: I don't understand why they don't give the date of birth of the players. Is it a secret?

Lenny

Sep-13-04  iron maiden: <Lenny49>, welcome to chessgames.com. You can find the players' birthdates, among other things, at the official FIDE site, fide.com.
Sep-14-04  percyblakeney: She's 18, her sister Nadezhda Kosintseva is one year older.
Sep-20-04  Lenny49: Thanks for the information about her age. I'm still not clear as to why it can't be given on this page where there is other pertinent information about her chess career.

Lenny

Sep-20-04  Gypsy: Welcome to this site <Lenny49>. To answer your question <I'm still not clear as to why it can't be given on this page where there is other pertinent information about her chess career.>, realize that this database is essentially a community project for and by chess enthusiasts from around the world. The guys at chessgames.com do most of the heavy lifting. But there is only so much they can accomplish on their own (three of them, I believe) in limitted time. Thus we, the kibitzers pitch in and help with the info (eg, Ms Kosinceva age) in the Kibitz Corners. It is, however, a whole different problem to have it all included in the more structured part of the database. The chessgames.com guys already have designs to turn over some of the peripheral database control (cf, player personal information) to volunteers from the ranks of kibitzers. But, my gues is, some (sandbox) safety features to protect the integrity of the overall database still need to be put in place.
Jan-10-05  malbase: From a determination of documents and Chess Life articles, Bobby Fischer held the views indicated in other posts not at age 26 or 25 but earlier. His problems started at age 18. Especially viewed with his match with Reshevsky. I would advise all the posters to read the documents.
Mar-21-05  ongyj: Something I observed about Tatiana Kosintseva's chess is that whenever her f3 knight is pinned by ...Bg4 she will almost always play x.gxf3 to recapture if possible. :)
Apr-05-05  schnarre: Thanks Gypsy! I was curious about that.
May-24-05  percyblakeney: With three rounds to go Kosintseva has taken the lead in the Russian women's superfinal, half a point ahead of Kosteniuk and Kovalevskaya. It's been a tough schedule with only one rest day during the whole tournament, and Kovalevskaya has for example won games in 114 and 90 moves. Kosintseva drew with her sister Nadezhda in six moves, a game the other K's won. Kosintseva-Kosteniuk today may decide the winner of the tournament:

http://www.chess63.com/online/

May-24-05  percyblakeney: Kosteniuk won a piece in a complicated middlegame and is now the sole leader and on her way to pass 2500 again. Kovalevskaya's game today lasted 93 moves, she could need some rest after the last rounds...

Jun-26-05  schnarre: <Lyliana> Thanks for the link!
Sep-01-05  kookykrumbs: Do I think Kosintseva is good? Yes, I do. Do I think she'll surpass Judit Polgar? No, I don't. As far as female chess players go, I think Judit is more the exception.
Dec-08-05  schnarre: Anything current about her?
Feb-12-06  percyblakeney: Kosintseva won against Alberto David (2591) in the Aeroflot Open today, probably the highest rated player she has beaten.
Feb-13-06  schnarre: <percyblakeney> Not bad!
Feb-13-06  percyblakeney: And today she won against Ganguly (2579) with the black pieces, not bad at all. Good day for the family since her sister Nadezhda Kosintseva also won with black, against an even higher rated player (Alexander Ivanov).
Feb-13-06  schnarre: <percyblakeney> Must be strength of family ties!?
