cu8sfan: <all> Maybe I should mention that I "forgot" to put a (-: at the end of my earlier post. So no problem, <Joshka>.

cu8sfan: Lol! Looks like at least some fell for it.

Betting this morning (before my post):
Prathamesh: 136 (8.85)
Izoria: 877 (1.46)
Draw: 309 (3.95)

Betting as it is now:
Prathamesh: 1,048 (3.63)
Izoria: 1,332 (2.88)
Draw 1,734 (2.24)

Apr-24-06  acirce: Thanks for that <cu8sfan>! ;-) Maybe not the most ethical thing to do, but as they say, all's fair in love, war and betting...

cu8sfan: <acirce> Well, I figured this joke would be too easy to call. And when I started feeling bad I set things right. (-:
Apr-24-06  percyblakeney: The ominous looking game can be followed here:

http://www.dubaichess.com/DxbOp06/o...

Apr-24-06  percyblakeney: Hmm, something must have been wrong with the transmission, I think I'll remove that diagram I posted since I suspect and hope it wasn't from the correct game...
Apr-24-06  percyblakeney: Well, whatever did happen in the game, the result is now given as Prathamesh-Izoria 0-1, and I hope they stick to that.

Chessgames Bookie: Now open --> Dubai Open: Rd 4 Bd 1: Ghaem Maghami vs Izoria
Apr-26-06  Joshka: <chessgames bookie> Is it fair for us to know, how many in the top ten, have borrowed money from the loan shark? Would be nice to see a list of the folks who have increased the "Most" without getting more from the shark!? Maybe let us see a "real" top ten of folks who have done the most with just the initial 1,000? Seems to me no one can crack these high earnings without getting loans. Thanks in advance.
Apr-26-06  percyblakeney: Ghaem Maghami-Izoria ½-½

Chessgames Bookie: Dubai Open: Rd 5 Bd 1: Miroshnichenko vs Kacheishvili is now open.

Plus, if you're feeling really lucky, for only 2 chessbucks you can try the Dubai Open: Rd 5: Pick Three. Pick the results across the top three boards for big winnings.

More information on the Dubai Open can be found here --> http://www.dubaichess.com/DxbOp06/i...

<Joshka> Sorry, loans are confidential. You can always just ask them, they might tell you.

lostemperor: <Joshka> as #6 on the spring leg standings I can tell you I did not visit the loanshark. Stay out of trouble and never visit a loanshark my mother used to say (I succeeded in both only at chessgames.com). The loanshark is the type of guy, mothers warn their sons about (and I'm the kind, they warn their daughters about ;-))
Apr-27-06  TIMER: <Joshka> It is extra risky if you use the loanshark, but for more gain if it comes off. Also, it keeps you in the game if you lose everything.

I gained just 8 my first bet, saw GuessWho gain over 500 and realised that he had used the loanshark to boost himself. On my next two I made the mistake of betting everything I had + about 80 from the loanshark to try and boost myself, but it backfired as I was wrong in both those events! After this I had to use the loanshark and bet everything I could for half a dozen bets until I got back to a decent score. This worked as I fortunately kept predicting the outcomes correctly otherwise I would have fell back more in debt.

But once I got to a decent score, I did not want to risk losing everything anymore and so have bet much more conservatively without any borrowing once I had leapt from about 500 to 2500 in two jumps.

But it is part of the game, you weigh the risks against the benefits. It is allowed in the rules for everyone so you can not complain. It also means that you can come back from losing everything to second place as I did. I learnt my lesson and once I was properly back in the game I have found no need for it.

Apr-27-06  percyblakeney: I've borrowed 200 or 400, don't remember which. I tied up (and lost) too much on Ivanchuk winning the European Championship and was too certain that Kozul-Naiditsch would be drawn... I regained my losses through huge bets on Kozul drawing his last games and a couple of other draws. It was a big mistake to bet too early and much on Ivanchuk, I was sure the odds would end up much, much better than it did...
Apr-27-06  Joshka: <Timer> <lostemperor> <percyblakney> Allright thanks folks for the info, very kind of you, to share some of your personal stragedies! <chessgamesbookie> allright, you set the rules!:-)
Apr-27-06  Ezzy: Can you please open the Siegen betting again. Blimey, it doesn't start until tomorrow and I have missed my opportunity to bet :-(

I know I should be saving my chessbucks, but why the rush to close the betting so early?

Chessgames Bookie: Very well, we re-opened the Sigeman & Co betting until tomorrow morning.
Apr-27-06  Ezzy: <Chessgames Bookie:> Thanks.

Actually, you're very generous for a 'bookie."

Apr-27-06  cavaleiro: I would like to see the betting for some events open earlier, one day prior, for example. I am always missing Dubai Open pools, because by the time I connect in Brazil they are already closed...

Chessgames Bookie: Wagering is open on the Dubai Open 6th round, board 1 and 2 games

Darmen Sadvakasov vs Evgenij Miroshnichenko and

Giorgi Kacheishvili vs Gabriel Sargissian

Apr-28-06  percyblakeney: I'm not convinced about any of the ongoing bets, so I've only invested small amounts (175 in total) on Rozentalis in Gausdal, Atalik in Sigeman, van Wely in the Carlsen match and draws on today's top boards in Dubai.

lostemperor: I'm a bit surprised Carlsen is odds favorite in his match with van Wely.
Apr-28-06  Holden: Carlsen is probably the odds favorite because of emotional reasons. Carlsen is a popular player, probably partially because of his age. I put chessbucks on Van Wely because I felt he was undervalued in the odds, even though it would be nice to see the young Carlsen win the match.
Apr-28-06  percyblakeney: Yes, I had planned not to bet on it, but did so because of the odds... Kacheishvili-Sargissian have drawn today, but Sadvakasov seems to have good winning chances in a rook endgame against Miroshnichenko.
