Jan-11-12  technical draw: <Well, marriage is the biggest gamble of all.>

True but initially you're a high roller. But then the odds will eventually beat you.

Jan-11-12  AnimusEtOblivio: After a couple rough legs, I feel the need to get serious. I have every intention of winning the Championship Leg.

Best of luck all; may the best bettor win.

Jan-11-12  technical draw: Yes,< Animus>, good luck But remember, second place is not bad at all.
Jan-11-12  AnimusEtOblivio: You're right <TD>, second place isn't that terrible at all; I am sure that you will be very happy there :p.

All joking aside, I know this leg will be as tough as heck. The competition is very tough, but I have a good feeling.

  Penguincw: Tata can be a tricky tournament to win. IMO, here are the most trickiest games to predict from last year:

Round 1
J Smeets vs Shirov, 2011

Round 2
Wang Hao vs I Nepomniachtchi, 2011

Round 3
Carlsen vs A Giri, 2011

Round 4
Shirov vs M Vachier-Lagrave, 2011

Round 5
Wang Hao vs Grischuk, 2011

Round 6
Shirov vs Kramnik, 2011

Round 7
Grischuk vs Aronian, 2011

Round 8
Shirov vs Grischuk, 2011

Round 9
I Nepomniachtchi vs J Smeets, 2011

Round 10
Carlsen vs I Nepomniachtchi, 2011

Round 11
Kramnik vs Carlsen, 2011

Round 12
M Vachier-Lagrave vs I Nepomniachtchi, 2011

Round 13
Aronian vs J Smeets, 2011

  Penguincw: ♔ ATTENTION ♔

Bookie, I think you're missing the quinella < Van Wely-Any > in Tata Steel: Quinella (A group). If the tournament actually ends like that (!) then you would have to refund a lot of bets. Currently nearly 8,000. I havn't even wagered yet. :) Thanks.

  Chnebelgrind: <Penguincw> all possibilities of van Wely-any are included in the existing tickets.

In several cases two tickets will pay. For example when radjabov and gashimov come to place 1and 2 <Gashimov-any> and <Radjabov-any> will pay both

  Penguincw: Oh. Thanks. :)

  SwitchingQuylthulg: Actually, <Penguincw> was right in the first place: we do need a van Wely / any option. Carlsen/van Wely, for example, isn't covered by any of the current options; ditto Aronian/VW, Karjakin/VW etc.

  Chnebelgrind: <SwitchingQuylthulg> You are right! Thanks
Jan-12-12  dakgootje: heh - did someone just dump their whole 10k on Carlsen to win? :P

  Penguincw: Hmm. Thanks <Switch> (assuming there is no more debate). Currently the pool is 9,244. Hopefully bookie will update before the bet closes.

  Penguincw: Pool is name up to 10,851. Bookie better wake up quickly.
Jan-13-12  technical draw: Well, I have bet my first $1,000 cbs. on the final outcomes of Tata. When the games start I'll probably wager less on individual games but I must remember that scared money never wins.

  SwitchingQuylthulg: Pairings up for all the GM groups: http://www.tatasteelchess.com/tourn...
Jan-13-12  technical draw: Thanks for that link Switch. I should get good odds on Gashimov against Carlsen.

  Penguincw: Bookie! Knock knock. Pool is 13,025 and we need a Van Wely-Any quinella.
Jan-13-12  TheFocus: Will we even get to bet on the first round games?
Jan-13-12  technical draw: Here are the final amounts of players winning the championship leg:

2011=48,376
2010=75,984
2009=54,230
2008=25,845
2007=27,833

So doing a quick math look/see I would say that 55,000 should be enough for the championship ring. So that would be my objective in the early rounds. Earn big in the beginning and let the others play catch up.

  Penguincw: Hopefully this doesn't discourage anyone, but here's what they all have in common: They all qualifed during on the legs.

2007 Wiiner: iron maiden
Qualified: Summer 2006

2008 Winner: percyblakeney
Qualified: Spring 2007

2009 Winner: holland oats
Qualified: Summer and Fall 2008

2010 Winner: Barok Espinosa
Qualified: Fall 2009

2011 Winner: AnimusEtOblivio
Qualified: Summer 2010

Hopefully I didn't get anything wrong. :)

  WannaBe: Why are there only 4 match-ups listed as betting odds for 1st round? =(
Jan-14-12

  Penguincw: I hang all alone:
113. Penguincw 998.

Two chessbucks behind my target.

Three chessbucks seperating the people behind me.

114. Barok Espinosa 995
114. bubuli55 995
114. Winter 995
114. Assa S. Sin 995

Jan-14-12  technical draw: Well it looks like I am about to lose 185 cbs in this first round. No big deal, I'll recover it tomorrow.

  Penguincw: Thanks for paying us early! For the first time, a loan actually worked. :) 209 gained in the first round.
